Issues with Plex Media Server for Mac

Server Version#: 1.21.1
Player Version#: Irrelevant

Plex Media Server has a couple issues for me on a MacBook Air with M1 processor.

  1. The program uses a great deal of power. I can tell if Plex Media Server is running just by touching the base of the computer. Even if no media is streamed the computer gets noticeable warmer running PMS than any other program.

  2. The program does not Quit. If I go to the Plex Menu Icon and select Quit the program freezes and must be quit using Activity Monitor. This happens every time.

Bump.

This sounds like your MacBook Air / Server is having a lot of trouble scanning your files.

Follow the guides.

It also could be one of these settings in Server Library settings.

Video previews are very CPU intensive and Intro Markers can be set to a scheduled task only or never.

As far as I can tell the program has no trouble scanning my files. I don’t change the library often so there’s not much to scan. I have always kept video previews off.

This doesn’t address the fact the program usually doesn’t quit when I select Quit from the PMS menubar icon and have to launch Activity Monitor and use Force Quit.
