Issues with subfolders being added incorrectly to library

Server Version#: 1.13.5.5332

Short version - I have subfolders in my media folders, and plex is recognising them as a “series” - How do I correct it?

I recently reformatted the PC that I run Plex off, and had to re-setup my library. Maybe I’m a bit strange but I have my library setup in an unusual way with subfolders. (Eg: C:\TV\Ongoing\ and C:\TV\Finished), but I also have media files just main folder (C:\TV). All the media files are labelled correctly, and I want episodes from all 3 folders in my Plex library.

Before my format, I didn’t have a problem with this. I’d just add the main folder to the library and then add the subfolders separately. but now Plex is recognising “Finished” and “Ongoing” as series, and not adding the actual series within those folders.

Any suggestions? Is there a way get Plex to ignore certain subfolders maybe?

First time on here, hope I did everything right.

Not possible.
Either you

  • get rid of the Ongoing and Finished subfolders
  • sort all shows into these subfolders. Which then requires you to add these subfolders individually to the library, instead of the top folder C:\TV

Mixing both approaches leads to chaos, as you have already seen.
With TV shows you cannot insert arbitrary subfolders.
You must follow the instructions to the point:

Thanks OttoKerner.

I wonder why it worked before my format. I didn’t want to complicate my question further, but I actually had one or two further subfolders inside those subfolders, and as long as I added each of those “arbitrary” subfolders to the library individually, there was no problem. But I guess I have to change my system!

Using a non-conforming folder structure may sometimes work - until it doesn’t.
