A while ago I upgraded by Plex server to the latest version, which included a new version of the web interface. Stuff still plays, but there’s a couple of minor irritations that creeped up that I feel simply shouldn’t be there.
- Swapping the exit and fullscreen buttons on the media player… seriously switch those back. Exit is always top right, fullscreen is always bottom right. These are UI basics in any video players, stop trying to reinvent the wheel.
- Not sure if this is a bug or if I’m missing something, but automatically starting the next episode after 10 seconds simply doesn’t work anymore. It gets stuck on a black screen with the loading circle icon and nothing happens. Worst part is, this has been broken like this for a few weeks now.
- Last thing seems more like a poorly finished feature. When I finish watching an episode and close the show during the credits sequence, Plex considers the episode unfinished and keeps it ‘open’ in that bottom content bar (same one that appears when you play music). Highly annoying, please give us an option to consider an episode ‘watched and finished’ when it’s X% complete so it stops showing this behavior.
Just some minor annoyances, but they add up to me starting to dislike the Plex experience. Especially when relatively simple stuff like this simply takes ages to be fixed.

Plex Media Player
The advantages are many, but most importantly:
It doesn’t run in your browser, subject to the built in limitations of your browser.
There are two viewing ‘Modes’ - Plexweb View and TV App View (offering more features and settings).
Asking for and actually getting changes for either PMP or Plexweb is laughable and a complete waste of time, but PMP is simply more powerful, designed to be the Go-To Plex Player App, plays a vastly larger range of media than Plexweb (the server interface) ever will and in the end will receive more love and attention from Plex Developers than the ****ty server interface that runs in browsers and is designed to be used as a server interface that happens to have a very limited player in it - you can use in an emergency if you have to.
Do yourself a favor and make the switch - you’ll be glad you did.
It’s painless - and free.
Note:
You’ll probably notice right away the ‘Full Screen’ button is in the same place on both now, that’s where it’s going to stay, so while you’re getting used to it’s new location you can explore those enhanced features and settings PMP offers because the ‘Main’ Full Screen Button is how you switch viewing modes in PMP.
Note 2:
Do NOT open up PMP to full screen windowed mode via the standard Windows controls in the upper right of every window you’ve ever seen before you hit the ‘Full Screen Button’… if you do, the adventure of regaining control begins and you can take it from me, you want to avoid that adventure if you can. It’s best to leave the window minimized a bit, then go ‘Full Screen’ via the Plex Button from there.
