Well, I’m still not sure what you mean.
Isn’t the Plex music library dependent on where my music files are?
I’m using the same parent folder for both iTunes and Plex (Using the same files).
No you’re not. That’s why I’m trying to say. Your XML shows the starting point for iTunes to be the “iTunes Media” folder but you PMS music library is starting at the “Music” level. You need to have your music library also start at the “iTunes Media” folder.
I understand now. But like I said previously. I’ve had actually tried four 4 music library paths by now (Paths above?) including the path that has my music library start at the “iTunes Media” folder (3rd path from the top)
Can you try again (including a PMS restart first) with the correct path then we’ll see what the logs say? I saw before that the library is created but nothing triggers the import. It’s possible the plugin isn’t working for you.
No dice.
I even tried a fresh install on a separate machine.

Your new log shows it only scanned in 1 file. Is that correct?
Correct. Just keeping it simple on this new machine for the sake of time and testing.
What do you see?
I see PMS creating a new library and it only found the 1 file. When you created this library, you did not enable the option to import from iTunes. I do not see a subsequent attempt to import the playlist.
One more time to avoid confusion (Fresh installation, again)

@anon18523487 Hi. Anything interesting in the latest logs I uploaded?
Sorry. No. The feature to read the iTunes.XML to extract the info isn’t being triggered. I’m not sure what’s going on. I’ve reach out to see if I can get more info on this feature.
I’m helping another user who is also have issues with iTunes import but it is working for them, with glitches. Maybe you can provide your setup there to see if there is something different going on. iTunes Linking Issue
Ok. Here’s something I’ve been sitting on for a bit, because it’s a silly workaround. And I wanted to see if there’s a real “solution”.
I figured the “Import from iTunes” feature worked at one bit for Plex, and “assumed” maybe earlier when it was introduced, so I went to the posted change logs and checked previous versions.
I went all the way back to 1.15.1.791-8bec0f76c-x86 (I uninstalled my current, latest, version before) and installed it.
I then tried the import and surprise, surprise, it worked
I then installed the latest version over it, and I still have the playlists.
Do you want me to post that in the thread you linked to?
PS: I don’t really care about play counts and rating.
Is this feature a one time import or scheduled import to pickup your changes?
I’m not sure I get that, but let me try
Plex can “import” iTunes playlists. However, if they playlist was changed in iTunes, Plex won’t pickup the changes.
I had issues to import iTunes playlists from the start.
Does this help?
Plex people and Mods on here…
Everything is working EXCEPT Playlist import…
You would not believe how many threads I have found with the same problem - searching, searching, searching and EVERYONE seems to have problems with not having there playlists from iTunes import into Plex…
I have imported itn=unes as instructed, have set the path etc for the XML file, all is working innPlex and PlexAmp…BUT NO PLAYLISTS…
The default playlists in Plex are almost empty and pretty useless… I have MANY playlists in iTunes, but can find no way to get these imported…??? !!!
Come on Plex, I have a PlexPass… my music (from iTunes, on a Mac) is seen, imported andnplays… but is a random jumble of individual songs and albums…
I want my playlists…
MANY PEOPLE are asking for the same thing…
PLEASE PLEX - Give us a reply and solution… this has been going on for YEARS!!!
HOW do we import a working PLAYLIST from iTunes???
For what it’s forth, below are some issues I have been able to resolve for myself in order to import my m3u playlists, maybe this helps a bit, or maybe you were already aware of these, HOWEVER: Plex’ playlist import via iTunes is still a HUGE buggy mess and disappointment imo and definitely needs to be addressed (but it doesn’t seem to be a priority for the developers at all!). I don’t understand why playlist import even relies on iTunes…I hate iTunes and I’m forced to use it just so I can import playlists. My biggest issue: There currently is no way to synch playlists updates, other than to delete and re-import all of them. Having hundreds of playlists, this is not acceptable!
- Make sure that in the iTunes preferences → Advanced…“Share iTunes library XML with other applications” is check-marked (and stays check-marked! For some reason iTunes sometimes automatically removes that selection)
- Titles/files using special characters, accents, umlauts etc. will not import and are missing from Plex playlists (this may be an iTunes bug). You have to manually modify the filenames and then import.
- When trying to re-import existing playlist in Plex in order to synch/update them, Plex will just create multiple duplicate playlists with the same name, even if you check-mark “overwrite existing playlists”. This option has no effect (at least not for me). The only way to update/synch playlists without getting duplicates is to delete and then re-import them all.
Enjoy!
