I have a test PMS containing just one album - The Sound of Music. It is important that the songs are played in the correct order as I don’t want to hear the Overture at the end. When I import the album into my music library the sort order is correct.
However when I import the iTunes playlist for the same album it is sorted in reverse order.
This is important because … if I have a Playlist “Musicals” containing several musicals, then they’ll all be in the wrong order. I’ve tried various settings in iTunes to influence this but cannot get Plex to do anything other than display the playlist in the reverse order.
I have created a test iTunes database containing a single album and playlist. The photos in my first post show how this looks when imported into Plex. I’ve sent the link to the test database via PM.
At a first glance of the iTunes XML, there’s a couple of playlists (129 and 151) that have everything in the correct order, and then another near the end (261) that has it in the reverse order. I’m not sure why iTunes would store it like that, but I’ll reproduce it here.
Did anything come from this question? I’m in the same boat after importing many iTunes-managed playlists into Plex. The sort order doesn’t match the way the playlist is sorted in iTunes and is honestly rather random: grouped by album, not grouped by artist (meaning that all tracks from one album by an artist will be together but tracks and albums from the same artist appear elsewhere), and not sorted by artist or album.
If I want to start shuffling a playlist by one song it’s basically impossible to scroll through a huge playlist to find it out of order, and searching all music only takes me to the source track, not the location of a track in a playlist.
Would love some option to sort playlists in both the web and iPhone GUIs. In the web I’d like the ability to sort playlists in the same way I’ve previously asked about within library artists:
