Japan ISDB-T USB Tuners

My goal is to set up a Windows 10 laptop with Plex Media Server and a compatible TV tuner that allows over the air Japanese TV signals. I’m doing this to have the capability of watching and recording Live TV from Japan to watch in the States. So far I have been able to catch my local US channel using a recommended USB TV Tuner on ATSC frequencies. I connected a TBS5520SE USB tuner with ISDB-T capabilities and a laptop with Windows 10. It was able to recognize the device after the driver install. But the Plex media server could not find it. I also ordered from China another USB tuner device that is also advertising Japan capabilities. I’m wondering if anyone in Japan has tried to use this new feature on Plex Media Server and what they used as a TV tuner.

Hi, I know that a pretty old Post but how did you project went? Were you able to achieve streaming Japanese terrestrial tv through Plex?

I just start to look at doing the exact same setup.

Thanks

Japanese TV is unfortunately not supported at all. There is also no EPG data available for Japan.

There is EPG data available in Japan. If you download any OTA TV app and use Japanese IP Address, you can see that they all have EPG pushed via internet data and provides similar function to Plex EPG.

If you have phone/tablets that has embedded tuner you can even gets EPG and “one-seg” “full-seg” 1080p TV broadcast without using any of internet data. Even my 18 years old Toshiba flip phone gets EPG and one-seg 1080p TV broadcast.
