Jump to letter

I have a very large movie library.  It takes a long time to scroll through all of the movies.  I think it would be great if you could easily jump to a letter of the alphabet.  Maybe the letters could be displayed at the top and you could select one to jump to all of the movies that start with that letter.

in which client?

This already works in the desktop clients (SHIFT + letter), and there are scrollbars for this in the mobile clients.

I would like to see this in the windows 8 client.  When using a keyboard on windows 8 it is a pain to have to scroll sideways forever.  Page up and down work well but, it would be nice to have the fine tuning of being able to go to the letter.

It makes a good deal of sense to post this request in the appropriate client threads.  Many of the clients do not have the possibility to do this because they lack a keyboard interface.  It is not something that can be implemented at the server level.  Even Plex/Web should be considered a separate client in this instance.

It does not need to be a keyboard interface, it can be letters across the posters for the movies / tv shows that are clickable.  Or accessed with tab on the keyboard and you can then move across the the letter you want and press enter

You can even use digits (like in old-style sms) to jump to the concerned letter (example: 2 takes you to a, then b, then c, if you have no content that starts with b, the it jumps from a to c).

However, this doesn't work anymore in the menu.

It is all client-specific and not server-specific.  Roku doesn't have digits or letters or a good way to get them.  Same for AppleTV.

Correct it is an client issue in the case of windows 8, there is desktop, laptops, and tablets that run the OS, they all have access to a keyboard.  I don't know if the shift hit a letter will work in windows 8, but it would be cool.

I would love to see this in PHT

Having to scroll through a large collection is the only real flaw I can find in PHT

Something similar to what we have in Plex/Web that we could access with the remote would be perfect

Letter.

Letter.

This works with a keyboard interface, but not with a remote control (to my knowledge).  In the older Mac OS interface, we could at least browse by first letter.  Any chance this will return to PHT?

Early 2021 clean-up: implemented (alphabet index in library view)
