I’ve recently been looking to see if Plex could support my needs of doing Karaoke at home for parties. I wanted a way that users could scroll through my library on my phone or computer and queue up the next song to be played. My solution is quite simple, but could benefit from Plex Coders making a few minor changes.
First off I created a User called Karaoke and a folder of Karaoke songs that I download from Youtube’s Sing King. Unfortunately this doesnt allow the CDG files that some have requested and requires creating a whole new library.
Once downloaded I can now create a playlist, as it appears the queue application is only for the device being utilized i.e. phone and not accessable from tv plex app. This playlist will allow me to continue to add the next queue’d song to be sung with a countdown of the next one. I do have to back out of playlist and go back in to refresh for newly added songs, but just scroll down. I also have to delete the playlist once the party is over and create a new playlist each time. Lastly, I use a wireless microphone machine to pass the TV’s karaoke music through and mix with the singer’s voice into a stereo’s speaker.
Now at first glance, the addition of a few minor things could really make this an awesome application within plex. First is either a queue that is accessible from the projecting device i.e. TV. Second, if not a queue, then an option to clear the entire playlist so it is refreshed for the next time. Lastly a quicker refresh rate so that the system continues to play from the new additions to the playlist without having to back out.
Please let me know if anyone else has any solutions or good ideas to make this a more user friendly solution for a Plex Karaoke, thanks!
