I typed in karaoke to see if anyone had mentioned this topic with no results. In addition to movies, TV shows, and music I found another reason to love PLEX. You can add an area to your library and call in Karaoke. Fill it up with .avi, mp4, ect. karaoke files and have a great karaoke party in your living room. If anyone would like to try this out here is a link to Beatles - A Hard Days Night karaoke file. http://www.mediafire.com/?6q9d71bqmmmtxse Let me know what you think.

Well that is a simple video file with the text burned inside. We do support video playback ;)
What we don't support (afaik) are those karaoke types which are not videos.
But besides that, yes. It is very cool. The problem is finding those video files, and at the same time as the music should be high quality. It is not an easy task =)
I recently added "cover version" plugin to my itunes, it shows the lyrics at full screen and scroll. Works quite fine as karaoke! Could be posible to add it in plex itunes to see it in on smart-tv?
Bump on Karaoke...would be cool.
Adding my vote for karaoke support. I've got thousands of karaoke files archived on my home server. Would love to be able to play them through my TV/sound system instead of trying to gather a group around a computer screen (typically use the KaraFun software but have been interested in trying out VirtualDJ).
I know it is a difficult task if you have a large karaoke collection but if your collection has .zip files you can take out the .mp3 and .cdg file within the zip file and convert them to one .avi file using Power CD+G to Video Karaoke Converter so it can be used in PLEX.
bump.
Any advances on possible support for mp3 + cdg? In the meantime, I am trying to figure out what setting to use in Handbrake to get the videos to convert properly on my Mac. Anyone happen to know. No matter what I do, the videos play fast and there is no sound.
mp3 and cdg files can be converted using the Power CD+G to Video Karaoke Converter so you can use the .avi file in PLEX.
AVS Video converter works as well, and has many different options for output.
Best of all, it works in batch mode, so for those with thousands of karaoke files, you can do the whole bunch at once.
Just have the CDG file and the MP3 file in the same folder with the same name, and just add the CDG file into AVS Video Converter and it will automatically grab the audio as well.
I had this idea and did a search, the first search came up empty so i submitted a topic. Then while trying to find my topic to see if it was submitted I searched again, and several topics popped up. I love how little tech hiccups make you feel embarrassed. Of COURSE I wasn’t the first one to think Karaoke on Plex would be a great idea! Just knowing there’s a way to get it going is good enough, but for it to be simple and automatically integrated via CDG and MP3 files would be awesome. I really hope this takes off! This would definitely sweeten the package for Plex Plus Members!
I’m glad to see a few of us PLEXers love karaoke. It is great during a party! Family and friends are amazed at my media and karaoke collection. Adding to my original message I also suggest if you do have a karaoke section in your PLEX collection you should change your “view” from poster to detail or list. PLEX’s view mode is in poster mode by default. This can be changed in the upper right of the screen. *Look for the super-small nine boxes and click on it. The reason I am explaining this is because in detail or list mode you can see the entire file name (Artist - Song) or whatever you decided to call your karaoke file. I hope this helps. :-h
I have a huge MP3+CDG collection, over 55,000 so the prospect of converting them all to AVI format is a little daunting. At present my only practical way around the issue is to have an old PC with Linux and VLC (other media players are available ) attached to my TV for Karaoke. Ipso facto I would love to see native MP3+CDG support in Plex; it would give me one less device to attach to the TV and the ability to stream Karaoke from my Media server to any device on my network.
I hear what you’re saying. I have a large collection also. It is a large task to convert the files to avi but I am doing it slowly but surely. I am taking one letter a week so I can be done in about 26 or 27 weeks. All I have to do is apply the batch of files to the Power CD+G to Video Karaoke Converter. I don’t have to be sitting in front of my laptop because it will do the rest. My wife would kill me if I am in front of the laptop for hours! :))
*.lrc lyrics file supported according https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/215916117
Using FoFLyricConvert2.40 (1-19-2016) http://www.fretsonfire.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=31765 you can convert ultrastar format to lrc with the command line below:
foflc -in ustar “ABBA - Dancing Queen.txt” -out lrc “ABBA - Dancing Queen.lrc”
Could also convert form
SRT- This is a format that is commonly used for line-synced subtitles. Each subtitle entry has a start and stop time in milliseconds.
XML- This is an XML based format used by the Guitar Praise video game in order to store pitchless, line synced lyrics.
JB- This is a text based format used by the JamBand video game in order to store pitched, syllable synced lyrics.
RS- This is an XML based format used by the Rocksmith video game in order to store pitched, syllable synced lyrics. This format does not store line sync information.
RS2- This essentially the same format as RS, except the + character is used to denote that a line break occurs after the lyric that contains it. For this reason, the noplus option is automatically enabled for the imported lyrics when this format is exported.
Not from mp3+G or CD+G sadly

Not to mention the storage needed for 55,000 videos
Wow
Had no idea we could do this.
Great Idea!!!
Is there a way to create an index that Plex can read such an html for listing the .AVI’s or MP4s ? Is there any tool for that?
If I was still bar hopping, I would love this.
I do think it is sort of a really cool idea.
Hey! Whazzup guys! I found out a few months ago that Power CD+G to Video Karaoke Converter does NOT work with Windows 10. That sucks because that is the OS I am using so as far as converting I am at a standstill. Power CD+G to Video Karaoke Converter 2 does work with Windows 10 but I see that it only converts files to MP3+G, WAV+G, ZIP, or BIN (Uncompressed). I do not know if the converted files are compatible but I will check that out soon.
Answering jose.martinez’s question: In PLEX you add a library (other videos) and call it Karaoke just like you did with your movies, TV Show, or music. PLEX will read avi. and MP4 files. Choose details instead of posters to show a nice full list on your TV screen (Poster View will not show all of the karaoke file’s information)
I bought Power CD+G and I’ll give you some tips. I am using it on Windows 10 and Windows 7.
You open multiple copies of the program by holding Shift while you click on the Power CD+G icon. I open 3 copies to maximize CPU utilization. This is a quad core Intel i3. To keep it from eating all the CPU I set each instance of the program to “Below Normal” for priority in the Details tab of the Task Manager.
You don’t need much resolution for karaoke, and you don’t need motion search precision at all. You DO need to have an audio output device present on your system or the program crashes. My box running Plex is headless. I have a dummy HDMI plug and I installed a virtual sound card to make it work. Otherwise I had to reboot the machine while the HDMI was plugged into a television. That works, too.
Set your resolution to 1280x720. Set output to .avi and use the Xvid codec and set it to fast, fast, fast. Check the Turbo box, no motion search, nothing.
Power CD+G will take about 1500 songs when you choose “Add Folder”. So from the bulk karaoke repository I choose about 3,000 files at once and move them to three staging directories so when something crashes (or Windows resets after an update!) I can easily find the stopping point to rebuild the processing list.
You can set the output wherever you want, but all the file names start with the karaoke disc nomenclature, which muddies up the search result in Plex. So I like to put the output into an unmonitored directory and then use a bulk renaming utility to shave off the trash at the beginning of each file name. Then I move them into Plex’s Karaoke library’s directory.
I wish there was a way to keep the media scanner from bothering with pulling thumbnails and all that. I don’t know too much about Plex so maybe the answer is already there. If anyone can point me the right direction on that I would appreciate it.
