Request: Keep items in your up next & continue watching section when the media is moved to another library or folder.
For example:
library & folder A: Series Ongoing (shows that will get more episodes)
library & folder B: Series Ended (shows that will not get any more episodes)
Moving a series (tv show) from library A to library B removes the currently watching episode from up next, however Plex keeps watch history (ie episodes 1-6 are watched, but 7-10 are not). However if you move something it removes it from your up next/continue watching and you need to go and watch (or mark as watched) an episode to bring it back to up next/continue watching.
this is easy enough for the server admin (since theyâre usually the ones moving the data) but hard for regular users to remember. they may forget to watch those last few episodes.
This shouldnât apply to simply moving a file between folders.
Raising the (probably silly) question of why you want to move media to a separate library for the sake of highlighting that the show has ended? Seems like an unnecessary stepâŠ
Ongoing series are on SSD as they more often accessed or updated. Ended are moved to HDD for longer term storage.
I also notice this still happens when having both (ended and ongoing) in the same library. Moving from one folder to another, rescan, delete trash, and up next/continue watching items are also removed.
This support article is your friend on how to properly move media to a new location (it appears youâve missed some steps). Thereâs no need to keep your separate folders in separate libraries.
Again⊠thereâs nothing wrong with moving the files to different folders. Plex can deal with that.
Having different libraries on top is the overkill part and doesnât simplify anything (e.g. no benefit with regards to folder sizes / manageability).
Also⊠look at it from a userâs point of view. How are they supposed to keep up with why certain shows are in library A while others are suddenly in library B (and why would they care)?
Just personal preference I believe. My users donât seem to have any confusion about why a series is in a library called âSeries - Ongoingâ or âSeries - Endedâ, they understand that âendedâ means the series will no longer get new episodes or updates.
I did try your solution: one library for all my series folders. the issue still occurs.
the issue is just that the media itself will stay marked as watched, but does not keep it under continue watching. [they do however still show up under On Deck, but that is not user friendly as its no longer shown by default on the âhomeâ screen]
One of the latest updates also makes it more difficult to add shows back to continue watching. You used to be able to mark an episode unwatched then watched, and the next one would automatically show back up under continue watching. This no longer happens, you need to watch an episode for a period of time before it will populate back into continue watching.
to add to this, even keeping media in the same library, plex still redoes intro/credit detection upon moving folders. using a checksum like sha256 would prevent the need for this, as it would be able to detect it is the same file.
