Plex doesn’t save the progress of audiobook files. Tested it with the Samsung TV app and the Android App, both online and offline
Server Version: Version 1.3.3.3148
Everything is in *.mp3, tagged correctly and shown correctly in plex.
These are my current settings:
Add your support for it by adding a “Like” to the first post of the thread. Don’t add a +1 or something else. Only “Like’s” are counted as a vote.
After you vote, then you have to wait until this actually develops enough support to be placed into development. This has been an ongoing issue, to say the least… Many requests (including this one) are several years old already. It’s just a matter of waiting it out, and hoping you see it before senility sets in…
And why is there a Option, that the server will remember the prograss?
On my screenshot it’s the point “fortschritt speichern” which literally translates to save progress…
Could “Fortschritt Speichern” also mean “Save Changes” as it shows in the English version of the Edit Library menu? I’m also guessing you are showing what I see as “Advanced” options in that second screen cap. You see it as “Erweitart”. (Or Erweitart Optionen?) (Gotta give me a break on this, as it’s been over 30 years since I took German classes in school.)
I also know this is one of the Top 10 Feature Requests. (In Plex’s history) Had this been implemented there would have been an announcement, lots of fan faire and huge numbers of people disappointed that Plex hasn’t fleshed out the feature as it was requested. (SOP for Plex on implementing Feature Requests. Do enough to say it’s been done, but not as much as people hope they will do.)

Anyways thanks for the Hint!
Because that is exactly what it supposed to do. I do not use Plex for my audiobooks as I find MediaMonkey running on a small computer connected to my Echo Dot via Bluetooth so much easier.
Now having said that when Plex announced the support for the resume/ff/rw functions (mid-summer I think) I tested it on my Rokus, Fire TV, Shield TV and my Raspberry Pi and it mostly worked on all of them with mp3s. I did not test other formats as I do not have many books in any form except mp3.
However I just tested and only my Shield TV works currently at all for remembering position and the Shield is quite wonky.
I think Plex did not really want to support audiobooks and therefore testing of that limited support just was not done and something has broken in one or another recent server upgrade.
Also a work around that used to exist where you simply rename an mp3 to m4v and the Plex would play it like a video file with no video part no longer works and even just crashed my server.
For me Plex is a great application for video and just horrible for any audio that is not part of the music that the Plex people like. Plex seems to have no interest in making things like audiobooks work.
Plex claims to be a media center for all media but I do not think it is really suitable for anything except video, standard music and, possibly, pictures.
