Key for forcing library scan

Hello, is it possible to define a key in PleX HTPC to force a library scan? The server is too slow on finding new episodes and it’s really annoying to have to open the web interface every time to force the scan.

The settings are already set on 15 minutes and scan automatically is enabled. It’s still not fast enough.

Go to your dashboard, under manage → Library set “Scan my library automatically” will scan the moment a file is added or changed.

Like I said, scan automatically is enabled. But it’s still too slow. It take few minutes to recognize the files.

Is it the server that’s not picking up the change or HTPC isn’t recognizing that something’s been changed?

I have an issue sometimes where the server picks up changes but HTPC doesn’t. I don’t think that’s your problem though right?

There is no way to force a library scan on the server from a client that I’m aware of

I’m talking about the server. Plex HTPC needs also some time to reload the content of an active library automatically, but I can reload HTPC with the F5 manually.

Typically the plex clients are for viewing content and not admin tasks which I guess is why they don’t have a scan option within most of their end user clients. They probably also don’t want end users willy-nilly forcing scans on a server.

As an alternative and as you have a plex pass, are you familiar with the plex dash app ? If so you can force a scan from it from the library tab (fourth from the left). It might be okay for your needs.

Yeah, I have plex pass. I will try the dash app. It’s really sad that I can’t force the scan on my client. It would also be nice if I could set the automatically scan to 1 minute.

Seems like not many people have this kind of problem. My server is running on my local pc when I’m starting my alternate windows user account. Plex Server, Plex HTPC and a ftp sync program are starting simultaneously. Most of the time I want to watch the stuff that the ftp sync program is downloading right after the start.

Sorry, I missed that.

Make sure the “Run a partial scan when changes are detected” is also enabled

When I’ve had the scan auto enabled files would show even before they are finished coping for me.

It is enabled.

Try manually dropping a file into your library instead of from your ftp sync and see if the results are different. your ftp sync may not be triggering the file changed process in the system.

Oh, interesting point. I will try it. Thank you.

Is the ftp sync downloading directly into the Plex library?

That can sometimes cause problems.

Plex will see a partial download, try to scan it, and fail, since the download is incomplete.

It will not automatically re-scan when the download is complete.

If possible, download the file into a temporary location, then movie it to the Plex library once the download is complete.

The downloads are mkv files. The informations are directly in the header so Plex recognize the file even when only few kilobytes are available.
