Kindle Fire Tablet as Plex 'command center'

Server Version#:1.18.8.2527-740d4c206
Player Version#:
I use an old (2nd gen) iPad as the ‘playback command center’ for my home media setup, which runs the Plex app (also Spotify, Pandora, and SiriusXM). The iPad then connects via Bluetooth to an Echo Dot, which sends audio via its 3.5mm output to my stereo system. I also like the flexibility of being able to issue voice commands directly to the Echo to control playback of the iPad (like, “Alexa, skip”), or by having it talk directly to my Plex server (like, “Alexa, ask Plex to play music by…”).

It all works, but the iPad has gotten really slow to the point that it’s almost unusable for browsing through my music library. I’m thinking of getting a new 10" Kindle Fire Tablet to replace the iPad, but want to be sure all those apps (especially Plex) and flexibility will still work. It seems like finding Plex in the Amazon app store has been hit or miss over the years - as if it depends on your hardware and version of Fire OS it’s running? Does anyone have tips for this kind of setup, and can confirm that the Plex app is generally available for the Kindle Fire Tablet these days? Thanks!

I use a Kindle Fire 8 to control my Plex playback when I’m listening to music in the bedroom. Works fine and has Alexa. I haven’t tried playing from Plex using voice on this but have it enabled as a skill on my echo dot and it works very well.

That’s exactly the feedback I was looking for. Thank you!
