Labels for Libraries

hmmm, So, a single folder could be in multiple libraries? I never though of that…

brillant. I’ll have to play around and see if I can’t get that to work for me.

No, my mistake. You will not be able to add all folders within one. Just tried. You will need to have them like @Elijah_Baley or my first example suggested.

X:\TVShows\TVMA\ – every thing is here that does not fit in the other directories (1)
X:\TVShows\TV-14\ – Contains everything that is lower than TVMA and Greater than TVPG (2)
X:\TVShows\TV-PG\ – Contains everything below TV14 and greater than TVG (3)
X:\TVShows\TV-G\ – Contains everything below TVPG (4)

Nonetheless, if all sit on one drive then you can do searches from the ROOT folder X:\TVShows

They do not even have to reside on one physical drive. You can use something like DrivePool by StableBit to combine all you drives into one.

The only gotcha, as I sometimes forget to mention, is that the PlexDataDirectory, where Plex stores its database and other internal information should NOT be in the pooled section of a drive. I don’t really know why but it just will not work and can result in a corrupt database.

I have all my libraries (close to 30 tb) on what is one virtual drive that spans 10 actual drives.

It makes things very easy and almost effortless to maintain things.

Yes. That is exactly what I do. I even have a folder where I keep movies that I like to have available for watching at night in bed. And I like to keep those movies in my regular library as well. So I have a library that contains only that directory and my regular library contains it as well. They even seem to share metadata quite well.

I bet this will work well for movies because they are one offs… But shows are harder for plex the understand. In my test creating a ‘AdultOnly’ library, plex sawBest Sex Ever, The (2002), Erotic Confessions (1994), Erotic Traveler, The (2007), and Hotel Erotica (2002)but had trouble with the shows underX:\TVShows\TV-14because no online match was not found forTV-14. Guess there are no shows called that…lol.

I believe this is due to Plex scans actual files for movies and folders for shows.

@NewPlaza - I use a method almost like @Elijah_Baley does for both TV and movies. For the TV shows make sure the library is pointed to (from your example - X:\TVShows\TV-14) to the TV-14 folder, and the shows are in sub-folders inside of that. The all access library would point to all folders - X:\TVShows\TVMA, X:\TVShows\TV-14, X:\TVShows\TV-PG, and X:\TVShows\TV-G . This seems to work for me, and watched, unwatched status carries across all libraries as a bonus

Oh I know This is what I have. I’ll give an example in a few

Here is what I get. This is the'AdultOnly'account.
So, this method will work but you may end up with a icon that isn’t correct.

Damn, forgot to add Teletubbies (1997)… Well you get the idea.

@anon18523487 is there any third party (or plex) apps that allow you to modify the database that contains the labeling information?
None that I know of. Not sure if such a tool would help in your case. There isn’t much that you would gain by manually editing the database versus doing it through the multi select from within Plex.

Well, I did it this way, and it works out great, a lot of pain in reorganizing, but worth it in the end…

I did end up with two additional libraries, but the folder structure was much easier to deal with and sharing was painless.

Thanks
