I have Plex Pass and am trying to configure PMS to automatically select the original/native language audio track for TV shows, and if that isn’t English, I want it to select English subtitles. But unless I’m missing a setting somewhere, there is no way to have it do that first part. I can only have it select a particular language or I can have it not select anything and playback will default to the first audio track which often isn’t the one I want. So I’m almost always having to manually pick the audio and the subtitles for every single episode of foreign language shows.
It seems like PMS should be able to do this given its access to online TV databases. Am I just missing how to do it?
It’s not possible, currently. All you can do is set both Audio and Subtitle language to English, the Subtitle Mode to “with foreign audio.”
This will at least give you English subtitles if English audio is not available.
If you want to watch a series in orignal audio with subtitles, I’m afraid you will have to edit each show before starting watching. On the Advanced tab of the show, at the very bottom, you will find separate language settings. Set Audio language to whatever the original language of the show is, Subtitles to English and Subtitle Mode to either Always or “with foreign Audio”.
