Have noticed large amounts of Data being Uploaded when watching OTA or Recorded TV Show. I’m monitoring Plex in my Mac’s Activity Monitor when PLEX Media Server is running (which was all the time)
This large amount of Data is getting towards 100 GB on some days in UPLOADS… so not sure what is causing this and looking to see if anyone else has similar experience.
Note: this when using my HD Homerun OTA Tuner watching a Live or Recorded TV show.
My steps are: … Open Plex Media Server… let it run for a couple minutes (Uploads are around 10 to 20 MB)… next open Live TV & DVR and click on a TV Show from the guide … all of sudden the UPLOAD MB are quickly increasing to almost 1 GB per minute… stop watching the show the Upload rate drops immediately when the show stops.
My ISP just informed me of my usage as I was reaching the data limited (before extra billing) so I been investigating what could be the issue, activity monitor has show Plex to be uploading the large amount of Data … so I assuming it might be Plex at this point. I noticed after reviewing my past ISP bills that this started back in Sept 2020…
Questions:
- Why is Plex uploading a large amount of Data when watching a show that is not even Streamed (its OTA, all within my local network)?
- How to stop this from happening?
Thanks in Advance.
