I have a Plex Server at my remote cottage with a very low data limit. I’ve tried turning off everything possible that could eat up a lot of data, but it still shows it’s using a large portion of data. This didn’t use to happen before. Any ideas?
Any remote streaming? Keep in mind a hierarchical / intransparent network setup can cause Plex to stream media “remotely” – in case of a bad remote access setup, this could mean the traffic can go through a Plex relay server even if your server / clients are all physically next to each other.
Can you verify this data is actually consumed and Windows isn’t simply mixing certain requests to your router up as internet/external traffic?
And yes - were using a Mobile Internet Hub from our Cell Phone provider, and the data is only a few GB off (most likely our cell phones and smart plugs in the cottage).
Any scheduled tasks (Settings >[Server Name] > Scheduled Tasks)?
Though I don’t see how that should eat through 18 GB of data (nor should the other library actions, unless you keep recreating a library over and over, forcing Plex to download all metadata anew, in particular the artwork).
Have you maybe been watching media from Plex’ online media sources (video on demand → Movies & TV on Plex or Live TV Streaming)?
