After connecting the chromecast and hit play, the phone alternates between a black screen and lock screen quickly, then it boots itself, sometimes to recovery menu.
After the phone reboot, if I connect again to the chromecast that was left playing, the same thing happens again as soon as the connection is established.
So far different brands and models share the same bug:

I get this as well it started a few days ago. Running same server and app versions on OPPO A91.
I also noticed that when I enter a particular season of a show, instead of seeing thumbnails for each episode, I just see “Episodes 10 Unwatched” and no content underneath. If I exit from the season, do some things and come back, I will sometimes get the content to show , however when I cast then the phone crashes
Similar issue here, I get a loop of the phone locking and turning off the screen as soon as I cast to Chromecast.
Have to force a reboot to get out of it, casting still runs and then if I connect to the Chromecast again the loop return.
Home app can however pause and start the cast stream as normal so the problem is only with the app.
This need to be fixed asap.

Tried both removing cache and reinstalling the app.
Also experiencing this on Motorola g7 Power. Happens on 1st and 2nd gen Chromecast. Plex version is 1.31.3.6868.
The issue is exactly as above; lock screen will cycle and phone OS will fail to a recovery mode.
This is a really bad one. I’m fortunate to have recalled seeing this on reddit and would be pretty angry right now to have bought a new phone to find that Plex is causing such an issue.
Not a permanent solution but have been able to stop the looping sometimes by purging cache and editing the notification settings in the Plex app. This is not a fix as it only works some of the time and shouldn’t be necessary, but seems the issue has something to do with notification.
But clearly this is a major issue that needs a quick stable solution ASAP.

Also try blocking notifications from Plex completely, that seems to at least stop the looping.
Clearing App cache does not work for me, but blocking notifications from Plex did it. Probably its trying to send some bugged notification to Android.
It seems that the Plex app is crashing the Android Interface app/subsystem, not the entire OS.

Thanks for reporting, we have been able to replicate the problem on a OnePlus device and it seems to be related to a Google Cast SDK that we updated in v9.20. We have found a solution which solves the problem for us and will deploy in v9.21.1.
