Latest Beta Plex Pass Transcoder Issues

Hi folks, I’m also encountering some transcoder errors with v1.43.0.10162 (I haven’t tried the new version above because I’m not quite sure how to install it without messing up my current auto-update functionality). Looking at the logs, I think there’s something up with passing the segment_copyts flag into the transcoder.

I’m fine with waiting until 10183 above hits the beta channel to see if that fixes things, but I thought it might be useful to have logs in case it’s a separate issue.

@nelsonpecora that should be fixed in the build above, should be pushed to the beta channel later this week or early next

So I downloaded and installed version 10183 on my macStudio. Still the same issue tho. When I’m trying to play a file with the public release of Plex [tvOS] it face plants. No matter what I try and do, it just won’t work and errors out.

However when I try to play that same file, via the Plex Preview [tvOS] it magically works. No fuss no muss, just freaking works.

So again, I have to ask. When is the Plex Preview app going to be out of Preview? Or how can I get a few of my family members a code to join the TestFlight version. So that they can continue using Plex, until this beta build version gets polished up.

@wakkedoff any chance you can provide debug logs which capture your issue occuring?

Sure, how can I help. How can I best capture ‘em. What do you need?

@wakkedoff Turn on debug logging, reproduce, then upload your log zip here.

@chris_decker08 Some feedback to provide to Plex and yourself. If we are being asked to submit logs. From beta build, you need to add an option to sanitize the data that’s being uploaded. Keep in mind that I stop remote access, enabled debugging. Quit Plex to get a clean log. Even though it might’ve captured some noise but I tried to minimize it. I spent more time going through this log and sanitizing data that does not pertain to this issue. In the future, Plex needs to provide us with an option to sanitize these logs. Unless people don’t care then that’s on them. However, I value my privacy & data. Lastly, Plex needs to provide us with a portal to submit these requests for review, instead of them being in a public forum. I hate to have to bring this up, especially since Plex values their customers privacy. But this does raise some concerns, so please take this post/comment under review.

Now to the issue on hand, in trying to help the community this is what I have found. Same AppleTV playing the same file, from the same server. The first player is the public released version of Plex [tvOS]. As you can see when I try to play it, it just face plants. No dice at all. However, when I try the same file with Plex Preview [tvOS] it plays immediately with no issue what so ever.

Hopefully this helps the community and hopefully Plex start to show some much needed maturity when asking for data from their core users.

The logs cover the issues in my last upload

I was asked to upload up ‘em tho. And so I did after I sanitized ‘em.

@wakkedoff i see the issue in your logs and will try and track it down. In the future just ask and i will open up my DMs and you can send me your logs privately. Unfortunately if I leave my DMs open I get flooded with users asking for individual help .

@techieanalyst your issues appear to be different than @wakkedoff’s which is why I asked for his logs to confirm. This new transcoder was essentially re-written from the ground up so there are likely more than one issue which need tracked down. In order to look more into your issue’s I will need samples of your problem media which re-produce the issues.

@gIr0d80 I apologize, I missed that we don’t include the DSM 7.2 installers in our handy pre-generated list. this should be what you are looking for: https://artifacts.plex.tv/plex-media-server-experimental/1.43.1.10183-e3bdfea69/synology-dsm72/PlexMediaServer-1.43.1.10183-e3bdfea69-x86_64_DSM72.spk

It worked thank you! Interesting that the Plex Media Server wants to „upgrade“ to the official beta which is minor in version based on its name

How long does the sample file need to be. So I can trim it down for you, lastly how do I best submit to you directly for review.

@wakkedoff i was able to reproduce your issue based on your logs, i need the samples from @techieanalyst for his issues. Thanks for offering though!

with the new beta i have trouble with fire tv 4k and fire tv 4k max . almost nothing is playable now. plex windows client didnt have these problems. plex with chrome does not have these problems neither. tried you fix but the AFTV wont play as i want them to play.

@noyse please include debug logs which capture your attempt to playback on AFTV

What samples did you need good sir and I’ll grab them

Did you read my post here? It fits into this thread! May be it can help!

of course can i send it to you via DM?

@techieanalyst please provide samples of your “bad files” which you have verified also reproduce the same issues. https://support.plex.tv/articles/201035968-generating-sample-files-from-media/
