Latest Mailer/Ad from Plex

So here we go again. Plex has some kind of deal with WD this time around where they promise a “monster” NAS that can “transcode multiple [up to 4] simultaneous 1080p streams”. Awesome. I’m totally on board, where can I buy? Because you you’d think the links in this email ad would actually get you to a product page with a “buy” button.

Nope.

Here are the pages that the links bring up:

  1. https://wdcloud.plex.tv/ (another ad, get Plex free, gee thanks I’ve had Plex for 4+ years now, where’s the NAS and how can I BUY it??) (from clicking on the “MyCloud” image in the email).
  2. http://store.wdc.com/store/wdus/DisplayHomePage (this is from clicking on the “View Offer” for 20% off link in the email)

Is it really so difficult to create an email where you want me to buy something and then, I don’t know, help me buy it? Apparently so.

Sigh. Me too. I had my credit card IN MY HAND ready to buy this…but the offer seems to be only available to US residents, and I can’t even get the WD store for my country to display NAS gear to buy. It just takes me back to the US store, where they can’t sell to me.

So yeah, 20% off and I was THERE ready to buy right now…but sadly the code doesn’t work unless you are in the US.

Did no one check this? I was ready to throw money on this but can’t.

As far as the 20% off code, it is good for anything on their site
WD has been made aware of the US only restriction and is working on it

Might it be possible for us non-US residents to be notified when WD update their site to allow the code to work outside the US? I too am sitting here with credit card in hand…

I would love that. Have you tried to even use the WD site? The Australian store doesn’t even list NAS hardware, it just redirects you to the US store that we can’t use.

Have you tried to contact WD through their site? You have to have a serial number to even submit a “hey how can I order stuff from your store” query.

As they are clearly a partner of Plex perhaps at some background level they are able to say to WD “You guys really need to offer our huge international userbase the discount too”.

I just had a response from Western Digital…they aren’t looking into this at all according to them. They suggest that I contact Plex as it’s nothing to do with them.

Any advice?

Here is what Western Digital told me when I asked how I could use the offer from Plex outside of the US:
