Latest Plex Media Server not adding music reliably

The most recent version of PMS is not adding most music despite the logs indicating it’s scanning said files. I don’t add music as frequently as Movies/TV so I don’t know when this issue started specifically.

To troubleshoot, I made a new library only adding a few albums/ep’s; around 23. Out of those, only 1 was successfully added to the library. Subsequent scans continue to see the files that weren’t added, but seemingly does nothing with them.

Saw another recent thread ( Plex does not find my newly added music ) but their solution of removing/re-adding the music to the library folder does not change the outcome.

Looking at the single thread 0x171dbf84d500, I noticed all those jobs are getting signal 9’d (idk if this is normal behavior for Plex, but it happens a fraction of a second after the job starts so I’m guessing it’s not). Also, after Match, Add/Analysis are 0.00sec, and all the directories that are not scanned into the library do not even show up as unmatched.

Edit: just to be clear, permisions/acls are uniform across these folders and files, and all have been successfully added into an older music library I created a long time ago. This test was conducted because I noticed it was not adding in new albums to that older music library.

Please disable verbose logging, restart plex, and re-create the issue. Verbose logging and partial logs do not give a big picture.

“Enable Plex Media Server verbose logging” is disabled and was at the time this log was generated.

Clicking “Download Logs” from the troubleshooting page gives me a 500 Internal Server error, and I don’t really care about that.

The log submitted should be enough, and there are no other logs updated in the logs folder during this operation.

Edit: Ok, I went ahead and restarted the service, ensuring debug was the only log on (my bad, I guess that’s why verbose logs were still showing up). I removed all the logs from the log dir and started the service. I ran the scan after the service was started.

There are some other logs for Matcher showing up actually. I didnt notice them before because it seems to roll this log over multiple times within 1 second. Each Matcher log looks like this:

Nothing more, nothing less. (It’s also displaying the version of FreeBSD the base system is running, not the jail, just to clarify on that detail)

In lieu of exporting the logs from the UI, I tgz’d all the logs generated by all things Plex related to this issue; from process start to finish. Hopefully this is helpful

I JUST noticed this error at startup

:man_facepalming: this was it. Why it was working before under these conditions, idk. But that was it, just fix permissions on tmp.

Edit: And ofc this also resolves the 500 internal server error for attempting to download logs. Thanks again
