Latest Plex server forces trailers/extras when refreshing metadata, with no option to turn off?

Server Version#: 1.20.3.3437
Player Version#: 1.20.0.1406-f47a81b7

So I just updated to the latest version of PMS and I refreshed metadata on 1 movie-- because I want to fix the sideloaded subtitle language bug. (#11956)

But the server still does not recognize the language of my srt files even after analyze/rescanning/metadata refresh.

It looks like this version did not fix the problem for me. I tried the Plex dance, removing and re-adding the subtitle files, etc. to no avail.

Specifically, I’m using zh-hans in my filename to denote Simplified Chinese. Plex had no problem with this before this bug appeared.

Right now, my srt files with zh-hans still appear as language unknown in Plex.

MOREOVER, after I refresh metadata, I now see extras and “play trailer” on my movies, and I have no way of turning them off because there’s no option for the new Plex movie agent. The current documented method for turning off extras/trailers is outdated because it hasn’t been updated for the new Plex movie agent.

I would very much like my subtitles to be recognized by Plex again and also I want to disable extras and trailers.

It moved. No longer in server settings.

Edit the library, choose Advanced. You’ll see the various options, including “Find extras.”

Well, it’s a bug then. I never changed this setting. I updated to the latest PMS. I refreshed metadata. And now I see extras and trailers.

Server: PMS 1.20.3.3437 on Synology DS918+

Tested on my system. Same results as you.

You can disable all extras but trailers by enabling “Only show trailers.”

Settings: Find extras = deselected and Only Show Trailers = deselected.
Results: Trailers and extras still displayed.

Settings: Find extras = deselected and Only Show Trailers = selected.
Results: Trailers displayed, other extras not displayed.

From the documentation:

  • Find extras : Find trailers and extras automatically (Plex Pass required)
  • Only show trailers : Skip extras which aren’t trailers

Just downloaded the latest build. Still seeing extras and trailers, but also the subtitle language code still isn’t fixed! I tried analyze/rescanning/refresh metadata. Still unknown language.

FWIW

The trailer fix should be in 1.20.4 which is not out yet.

Hi,

Thanks for keeping an eye on this. I downloaded the latest beta 1.20.4 and I can confirm that the trailers/extras issue has been resolved. Once I refreshed metadata they are gone.

However, regarding the subtitle language issue–

I have done some testing, on the latest beta, Plex still doesn’t recognize language-region tags, like zh-hans to indicate Simplified Chinese.

It used to, but this function has since been broken a version or two ago.

I changed the language tag to zh which Plex recognizes as Chinese.

Plex still recognizes subtitle titles/display titles, as shown in the screenshot here.

In conclusion, I’d like Plex to recognize filenames such as xxyyzz.zh-hans.srt as Simplified Chinese, which it used to do. Right now, it only recognize xxyyzz.zh.srt as Chinese.

The problem is that, as you can see in the screenshot, it doesn’t differentiate Simplified Chinese from Traditional Chinese, they’re both displayed as “中文” which means Chinese.
