Since I have applied the Plex server updates in July my movies especially 4k have been buffering. I thought it was my network and reset everything I have. The newest update to 1.16.2.1321 made it worse. Even if I dumb it down it still buffers. I even have to dumb down my 1080p movies to low 720 so they won’t buffer. I talked to a friend who is also a Plex user and he said all of his movies have been buffer also since the update. Have a great server with 2 Xeon processors and 32 Gbs of ram. I have not had this issue untill lately it worked fine before
Returning from holidays, I too updated the server - all my 4K video now stops for buffering after 20-30 sec, video that played without problems before installing the updates. Using LG webOS client, though alternate clients (LG, XPlay etc) also stops for buffering, making the server update the most likely culprit. I’m currently on 1.16.3.1402.
@Halmans4 I found a possible work-around, just wanted to give a heads up if you or others experience the same problems still.
I disabled the DLNA server, killled the PMS and PMS DLNA tasks (couldn’t restart the tasks any other way) and started PMS again, this time without the PMS DLNA task running.
Plex for LG now plays 4K HDR 5.1 EAC3, with subtitles without any buffering issues so far. I havent tried 7.1 Atmos. My best bet is some issue between PMS and PMS DLNA, but until now disabling DLNA seems to do the trick.
I will give that a try Thanks
I am interested in this too as since I updated my server my playback has been pretty bad, with buffering every 30 -> 60 seconds., and even hard wired the TV to the router to try and eliminate this.
I think tomorrow I will have to do some testing and look at the logs to see what has been going on.
BTW i have DNLA disabled already
Disabling Direct Play on my TV (Samsung Tizen) has meant that its now stable at least using Direct Stream.
Well gave it a try but didn’t seem to help. Hopefully they get this fixed. I gave up on watching any of my 4k movies. They use to play just fine now it tells me my server isn’t powerful enough which I know isn’t the case
I’m having this same issue on my Samsung TV. I haven’t updated the server software, but my plex app on the TV has automatically updated itself. I’m going to try disabling the DLNA functions to see if that helps, but it would be nice to a true resolution for it.
