I have a strange issue where I start my video, I get a good amount of buffer right away (1-2 minutes worth), its gets slowed down after a few seconds, then completely stops and never continues to buffer again. From the dashboard I get “buffering” as status which never changes after that. Tried from LAN, from external network, with another user, different TV series, but results are always the same. I did a complete full reinstall, and still the same. Transcoder is set to automatic, bandwidth set slightly below my maximum upload. Using UTP cables, no wifi involved. CPU spins on 15-20% during decoding. What could be the issue?
Edit: I’m using Plex for like 1-2 years now without problem with the same settings.
Edit 2: Seems to be direct play causing the issue. If I disable direct stream / play forcefully, the buffer doing just fine. Affecting Edge and Brave browsers. Common point is Chromium there.

I am having the same issue since the most recent update (1.25.2.5319). Movie will play for a bit then goes to buffering then never returns. I check server says buffering but nothing is happening. I checked CPU usage same 15-20%. Also noticed this on Chrome but have not tested on any other platform yet. Also checked the logs and logs seem to indicate no errors or issues(but also not an expert plex log reader but here are logs Plex Media Server Logs_2021-12-29_13-52-37.zip (6.4 MB)) I have been running plex for 8 years and this is the first time I have seen an issue. I thought it was when it was transcoding audio but found today it did not seem to matter. Going to try the play forefully and see if that resolved.
Same issue for me. I’m only getting it on my PC when I view in web browser though. And my Plex Sever is actually hosted on the same PC so it shouldn’t be an internet speed issue.
Plex seems to work fine on other devices locally via wifi and hard wired, but not my PC where Plex is hosted.
I get about 60-90 seconds of buffered video and then just dead stop. Only thing I can do is close and reopen Plex and then resume the video for another 60-90 seconds before it stops again. Really frustrating!
For me these weird buffering problems with not loading new parts seem to have cleared up since yesterday or the day before… didn’t change anything on my side what system configuration is concerned, did install a Plex server update that didn’t mention a specific fix in the changelog that could’ve affected this problem… but the problem seemed to have been solved since. Or the relay as I was suspecting is working stable again.
Do want to mention that I’m a bit disappointed this topic and my own have not been picked up by the community or active staff. I’ve been told Plex has quite the active community…?
I’m on a Mac, but yes I have tried to use the native Plex app and that does work fine. Unfortunately I output the sound to a HomePod and the sound is out of sync when using native app…
