Latest server update causing total rescans? taking forever?

latest server update causing total rescans? taking forever?

updated and the scans that usually take a couple minutes look like they are gonna go on for days… weeks hahaha (seriously) and eat up a terabyte of download/data transfer… maxing out my servers download speed for days and days is not gonna be fun at all : (

i read something about the tv scanner changing… been dreading it… as it will take days for that to rescan…

but i’m confused as to why the movie libraries look to be doing a total rescan that’s gonna take a week… hahaha… did something change with the movie scanner??

is there any way around this? : (

Same here. This is not good :frowning:

I need logs please.
Also , which “Latest” as there are two versions.

1.21.2.3939 in my case. Will see if I can provide logs later. I do a daily scan around this time, and it is taking forever. Doesn’t look like it’s scanning everything in as if it was the first time, though.

yea it’s not finding/adding stuff… the stuff is already there… but for some reason its taking forever…

one update though… the movie scan that takes a couple min usually, took a couple hours… but it did finally finish…

restarted the tv scan and it looks to be going on forever… but that’s probably to be expected if there is a new tv scanner right?

Folks?

LOGS please ??

(DEBUG ON, Verbose OFF)

I can’t help when I can’t see.

Chuck, I appreciate you jumping on this so quickly, but I can’t stop my server any time soon.

yea… alas i can’t stop my server today either : ) : (

but in the meantime… can you tell me if the new tv scanner agent rewrite… would cause the first scan with it to take a really really long time (like an initial scan) ?

It probably will that first time because the Agent is changing. It’ effectively rematching & upgrading as it goes.

Depending on how much media you have “a really really long time” is relative.
What are we talking about here? Seconds-> minutes? Minutes -> hours?

So, wait, this latest PMS release has the new TV agent, and it’s enabled by default? I did not see that anywhere in the change log. Otherwise, I would not have updated. I still use the legacy movie agent for that very reason. It would simply take too long to re-scan all my stuff.

In my case, we’re talking weeks.

Look carefully in the advanced tab.

If you have Plex TV Series == New Scanner
If you have Plex Series Scanner == Old Scanner.

I’m finding a few last little issues with the new scanner (but it’s my job to find those things).

Are we talking about TV scanner or Movie scanner?

Movie Agent has been around for a while now.
Only the TV agent got updated.

Sorry, was talking about the TV scanner and agent, and I think so was JT. In this latest PMS release, there is no scanner selection for the TV library, so it should still behave like the previous releases, no? The agent has always been the same for me, TheTVDB. Are you saying that got updated?

This is what I’m seeing while trying to create a 907 series QA TV testing library. I will be asking Engineering in the morning.

days at least i think… abnormally large library hahaha…
initial scans take days and days and days… well weeks off and on in the end : ) : (

btw… i’m not complaining : )

the plex scanner agent for tv is already GREAT, and hopefully with whatever is updated in this version… even greater : )

i maintain an emby server as an emergency backup alongside plex… but the tv scanner agent in emby is just a mess… i mean… plex matches like 98% of everything i throw at it… regardless of how its stored/where it’s stored/what it’s named…

emby… if i DON’T spend hours renaming things and making folders etc… matches like 10% on a good day : ) : (

Yeah, I don’t have that. Just checked. No scanner selection for TV libraries.

@jaquestati Give me an episode count? Library of Congress size? Bigger ?

110K here

:boom:

LOL , my QA test library is 95,000 episodes.

Put Plex on a SSD

But Chuck, are we even talking about the same releases here? I don’t think the official release from today contains the new TV scanner, which I thought was still in the testing phase.

Plex itself is on a super fast NVMe.
