I don’t have any good answers, but I had similar issues today, though I’m on Ubuntu.

For me it seemed like a transcoding issue, so might be a good idea to just check if your graphics drivers are fully up to date?? :slightly_smiling_face:

I managed to downgrade mine. Here’s a link I found on Google, but be warned, I hope no idea if these are “good” copies of pervious files or not. And whatever you do make 100% you have a backup of your PMS before doing anything!!

I ended up restoring a backup of my PMS so I could at least get everything back to normal; once I updated people’s “previously watched” history.

Hi Thanks for replying, i have looked at drivers and all up to date, however there is a windows update that has crashed my rig 3 times when trying to install. im guessing from the bill gates bullshit that i have a driver issue with some hardware which apparently is not supported? Microsoft support tried to tell me my hard drive was the issue? Dude its a samsung ssd thats about 2 years old and running perfectly?!? so they are no help ether! honestly i think im just going to goto windows recovery and load a previous backup of windows! thanks for the help

Can you post your server logs and note the date/time of the incident?

Plex Media Server Logs_2023-01-12_16-20-49.zip (2.9 MB)

last instance of this was 12/01/23 at around 16:20 … its on the pc that hosts the plex server, and Its refusing to play any files at all now… just has a yellow circle loading and thats it!

also my server version is Version 1.30.1.6562
Windows 10 Pc and its worked perfectly for years until yesterday?

Hi Dbirch, is that what you need?

@ChuckPa This looks similar to a recent issue you were working on:

Nice one, thanks for you help

Hi, Tonight things have got worse, now my Roku’s in th house with plex installed are now refusing to load any content? im stuck with a plex server thats refusing to work? Im going to give up with it and uninstall it and go through the pain of having to set it all up again? its basically useless now?

Ok i re-installed it and its made no difference? Is there anyone from Plex support who can help please? my plex is useless

I’m in the exact same situation. Went from being able to watch anything to now all videos just gives me a buffering ring. Looking through the settings, for some reason it won’t direct play on local LAN anymore in my case. It’s trying to hardware transcode which shouldn’t happen on the local LAN. So, not sure what changed from this latest update to force that. All settings on my media server are still set correctly too.

@ChuckPa Poke in case you missed the last ping

Folks.

I am finding that CUDA SDK v12.0 is a problem. (That’s Nvidia 525 drivers and above)

The 1.30.x series also introduces AV1 Hardware Decoding support for transcoding.

I have confirmed:

CUDA SDK 11.7 is good enough to HW decode AV1

Downgrade to the version I show and hold there until we get our arms around this.

This is one of those cases “Don’t upgrade just because you can”
(we have some work to do)

I can provide AV1 sample videos to confirm it all works (HD → 4K)

Hi, thankyou for the help, so i have this right, you are saying its the gpu drivers thats the issue and i need to roll that back? is that correct? (sorry im not much of an expert at drivers and gpu’s (and yes you are correct, i just update when a driver comes out lol)

Hi, Ok so i managed to get an older driver and install, still does not work. I turned off the option to use hardware transcoding if available and that works, until i have more than 2 transcodes, then it all goes wrong!

I need the hardware transcode to be able to share my server with my family, otherwise its useless!

i currently have ver 512.95 and thats not working? any ideas?

Plex Media Server Logs_2023-01-17_16-59-56.zip (3.0 MB)

i removed all the drivers and googled CUDA SDK 11.7, downloaded and installed that. same result. posted the latest logs, turning off hardware transcode is the only thing that works, but obviously no good to me. really appreciate the help guys, any other advice or suggestions? im not sure what else to do to fix this!?

@skullmeister

After changing the driver version , did you -

  1. Update initramfs
  2. Restart the host

Which card do you have ?

I confirmed it all works on a GT1050-ti and P2200

hi, sorry im a complete noob here… i have no idea what initramfs is or means, yes i restarted the host pc and restarted plex server

I am running a zotac 1060 6gb (nvidia) card

  1. Drivers
  1. updating the initramfs (the ramdisk Linux uses for startup) is part of the distribution
sudo update-initramfs -u
  1. normal restart
sudo shutdown -r
