Latest update on fire TVs

Just wanted to say that the latest update to the Plex app on FireTVs absolutely sucks. My two biggest gripes are how laggy it now is and the disappearance of the next button when watching a show. Like seriously?? Who the heck decided to remove the next button?? You have to fast forward all the way to the end of an episode now to go to the next one. I like to shuffle shows like South Park too and you can’t even do that anymore unless you navigate the painstakingly laggy episode/season menu and work your way all the way to the “show” tab. Just do us all a favor and revert back to the old version. Good Lord. I’ve never felt the need to write something like this before in my life but I’m just blown away that this was approved.

This update is absolute rubbish. It’s worse, slower, takes longer to do everything, is harder to navigate, and on top of that it’s full of bugs everywhere.

It’s a disgrace.

They should put up a tutorial on how to revert to the previous version.

There is one.

https://forums.plex.tv/t/workaround-roll-back-the-fire-tv-plex-app-to-version-10-30-9-4262/940645

I’ll keep this in mind just in case. I don’t want to do it that way and download anything from external sources. But if Plex itself doesn’t do anything, I’ll end up installing the version from the tutorial. That is, unless I switch straight to Jellyfin or some other programme.

Thank you.

There’s also Plezy and PM4K which is a add-on to Kodi

Then here is a version not on a third-party source.

Yeah this is awful… I keep discovering more things to hate. When my app first updated last week I got so frustrated with it I just turned the TV off and sat there in silence. The next day I got so mad I threw my remote. The next my wife took the remote and said I’m not touching it… Sure enough, 5 minutes later and she was fuming! We played cards that night. I’m just now realizing that playback quality options are missing… There is no way to force automatic conversion. I can’t navigate this awful app anymore. I can’t get this pissed every time I want to watch my media!!! I’m about ready to just plug my server into my TV in the living room and play using VLC.

This update is trash. EVERYTHING is moved around and several things don’t function at all. I cannot even exit Plex with the remote to use other apps now. I get to the “Choose a Profile” page but can’t quit the app. I have to go POWER CYCLE my Firestick manually! WTF is that crap! I’m going to try and go back to the previous app version. If I can’t I’m thinking my “Plex-Pass” will become a Plex “PASS”. Pisses me off that I bought a lifetime one now. I am NOT a happy customer!

Thank you.

I reinstalled the old version because 2026.15 is complete garbage. The instructions are in the link above. You have to uninstall the new version but it’s pretty quick to reset your preferences once you install 10.30.9.4262 again. One of the plex users created a Downloader code - 9435316 so I used that in Downloader and it worked like a champ. Make sure before you install the old version you turn of the “Automatically Update Apps”. If you don’t do that, of course it will at some point (maybe immediately) re-install the crappy new one. But anyway, My Plex app is back to normal. I’d save the APK too. Good Luck!

At what point do you type in this code?

You type it in the address bar on the Downloader app, instead of having to enter a long URL. But you can copy/paste the address using your phone as a keyboard in FireOS as well.

I agree. This update is terrible. It’s slow, things that were once very useful to me have changed, and then you have to do a lot more clicking to make your selection. Terrifying update. I don’t want to use it anymore if it stays like this.

Thank you! At first, it said the link was removed or no longer valid or something, but I just backspaced over the URL to get rid of the extra stuff and it worked.

You are a genius for doing this.

I agree, the new SW is horrendous to navigate and none of my friends like it either. I first saw the interface on Roku TVs at other people’s homes and hated it. Now I am stuck with it too. I should turn off auto update but that’s can create other issues.

I also noticed that buffering on the latest PlexMediaServer release that I had (1.43.3.10861), wasn’t working as well as previous versions. The software wouldn’t let me revert to a previous release, so I had to uninstall PlexMediaServer and do a load from a saved software I kept from in May. Works much better now.

Not really. Streaming services are not something where you have to be using the latest app version to maintain access, so you can generally continue to use the app you have until it ceases to work or starts having some other problem because they changed how a feature is implemented (and that will be several months later).

Also, if you have automatic updates turned off FireOS will prompt when you launch an app and a new version has been recently released, giving you the option of updating or not. So you can simply install the updates on your other apps as prompted and decline on the ones you don’t want to update.

Thats not entirely accurate. Regarding PlexMediaServer, if you read the release notes there are security updates that are pushed out in the server software updates. Not all security updates are contained in the host server OS.

Am I concerned in the Smart TV/Device app? Not as much. Unfortunately there is no way to roll the app software back.

The topic of this discussion is streaming device apps and disabling updates on streaming devices. Thanks for trying to conflate my reply into referencing PMS.

Let’s see… It’s a short thread and the turn off auto update app was covered which I acknowledged and said I should turn off auto update. “Check”

I went on to point out there are other issues with the latest server release that made the app even worse. I rolled back the server SW which made the app respond better but comes with drawbacks.

So… thanks for acknowledging what I already agreed with I guess?

Edit: If you look at the OP you can see they called out the laggy behavior of the app. Welcome.

Yup, It did the same for me the first time.
