Learning from Mistakes

I might be a tad bit familiar with software development. I’ve always said that I’ve already done all the dumb things so you don’t have to. But as we all know, dumb is without limits. The simple rules I’ve learned:

  1. Know your customer. They control your reputation and income.

  2. Develop short and long-term goals. Show progress on bugs and enhancements. Progress is success - it’s important for your team critical for your customers.

  3. Bring your customers along with you. Make them a vested part of your goals.

There are a lot of accusations regarding attempts to develop new income streams. If that’s what you believed you were doing, then you missed rule #1 completely. The goal of a new/different customer base might have called for a new product to avoid the consequences of breaking Rules 1) & 3). Offering a “New” product could have avoided this nightmare scenario you’re now facing.

Or in hindsight, maybe you “progressed” development faster than your customers were prepared for; 2) & 3).

Congratulations! Poor direction from the top has completely changed my 10 year affair with Plex. But hey, I’m just one paying customer. You will do just fine without my monthly payment. You will do fine without me being satisfied with your product. You’ll do fine without me promoting Plex to the public.

You’ll do fine. Right??

you don’t really care about the customer because your new apps don’t work
