Server Version#: 1.41.7.9717
Player Version#: n/a
I just upgraded to the new beta build of PMS (1.41.7.9717) and now when I add new videos to my library their mp4 metadata is no longer being read and added to PMS…
We knew this was coming, but we were assured that this would only happen after being notified in advance, and after the nfo feature was implemented.
The following fields are no longer being added by PMS.

This is what the changelog mentioned:

(Transcode) Transcoding High Bitrate EAC-3 could result in choppy audio. (PM-691)
(Transcodes) Some transcodes could result in larger than required bitrates (PM-2772)
Can confirm no third party agents are working on latest Plex Pass server release.
They are still listed and be setup however can no longer be accessed for scraping metadata.
If this is permanent Plex team will have another sh*tstorm on their hands…
I did/do have a 3rd party agent, but that hasn’t functioned properly for 6+ months - but Plex still was grabbing the MP4 metadata from the video files.
The agent developer said that that was not a function of his agent and that was still being imported and overwriting his agents data.
I’m grateful that if switch agents - ie. Use Plex personal agents, etc, I could/will lose everything the previous agent added over multiple years - thousands and thousands of videos x20.
But more to the print, in the last Plex forum discussions 3rd party agents were brought up and my understanding was that Plex wasn’t going to change/break anything BEFORE a) letting users know in advance and b) not before Plex created a new 3rd party agent/standard for info files.
As a long time Plex user who migrated from Windows Media Center, who truly had your back and support - even with all these new ‘radical’ changes - I am now disappointed and as I have in the past, I feel like I’ve been betrayed.
I’ve invested so much TIME and money into my server which can not be replaced and all I can do is trust Plex to do what they promised and what’s right for their users.
I feel betrayed - especially after advocating for my friends and family to update from free users to paid Pass users. Now I have the added burden of not being able to sorry my friends after getting then to fork over $$ for a service I no longer can TRUST.
Same here and migrated from Mediaportal 1 back in the day as Plex was a fantastic upgrade with great client and server support.
If this is a bug or part of an upcoming update to remove third party agents well not much left to keep it useful for myself and expect many other users, what % of the userbase that will be time will tell.
What I would suggest is install Jellyfin beside your Plex server to get that up and running so that if you see the need to switch.
While Jellyfin is in no way perfect with its smaller team and resources however is improving significantly since Plex keeps regressing and distancing from its “legacy” users.
Great idea and might become a necessary emergency exit, but as it stands, I have well over 180 thousand videos I’ve been collecting since the '90s.
Switching over this many videos with both manually entered metadata as well as 3rd party agent and Plex affect metadata to another platform that also has no guarantee is a really something I’d rather not take on at this juncture of my life -
Nothing in life or politics comes with any guarantees and I’m not yet to the point of abandoning my FAITH in the Plex team at this point.
Especially after 8+ friends and family have recently purchased Lifetime plex Passes - which wasn’t an easy decision to make or set aside funds for - I get like an ass.
Sadly I too had to revert to an older version for the first time. I do rely on some of my 3rd party agents (some of them I’ve personally enhanced).
Pls, reinstate this, at least until there is another possibility to add our own agents.
Please remember that 1.41.7 is a beta release, if you run into issues we’re super happy that they get reported but if you’re not comfortable using beta software I’d recommend sticking with the public releases.
As the legacy agents are not something we actively maintain I believe this was likely just not a priority during testing and was missed that these no longer work. It is not intentional.
100% support and embrace beta releases, but as with all Plex releases, the release post is the only place that I’m aware of that documents changes made to Plex,
This was not in the change log provided – it’s important that when you communicate with your users you are upfront about the changes being made.
With regards to specifically removing or altering features without letting users know is irresistible and trust breaking.
If you are removing features a statement should be included.
** Future beta versions will be removing legacy metadata features. If your library relies on this feature, we recommend leaving the Beta Channel.
It’s a bug as mentioned by myself and @Atomatth. A fix has already been made internally waiting on release. Hence why I mentioned refraining from using beta releases if you want to avoid bugs like this in future.
Yes, I suspect it was the same changes that is causing both issues. The fix for the agents does not fix the redirect though and it still needs to be investigated.
Someone earlier in the thread (and someone else in another thread) suggested reverting back to 1.41.5 was necessary to fix some of the agent issues people are experiencing - which is why I wanted confirmation that this specific bug was confined to the 1.41.7 beta releases only.
No, you said reverting back to 1.41.6 resolved the problem - I was referring to the post by @Rick164 which suggested that reverting back to 1.41.5 was required.
