I have a NetGear ReadyNAS 6 Pro which I originally bought specifically for Plex server. A $1400 dollar investment. It has my 10TB of media.
However, as Plex neared it’s v1.0 release, they ditched support for my NAS. Understandable, insofar they wanted devices with a newer kernel. However, that left me hanging. It worked for a while, then the apps stopped supporting older servers.
However, I still do want to access my media! I had a PC run PMS newer versions, but it crashed, and I can’t afford to replace it.
So my question is: Are there any legacy Android app/.apk that will support my version of the server? I don’t need all the newfangled mess, just basic support for the videos.
And if there aren’t any actual Plex apps available, do I have any alternatives?
Get a new Intel NUC with an i5 or i7 CPU in it. Load Linux and Plex Server onto it.
Put it on top of your NAS. So use the NAS only for media storage and all the Plex server stuff will be handled by the NUC.
This applies to any NAS owner who finds his NAS device lacking for power to run Plex.
While that is true, I came from xbmc to Plex because I preferred it to xbmc(/Kodi). And as my server already does run Plex, with my entire library already scrapped and ready to go, all I need/want is an app that goes together with my existing install of PMS.
Because that’s the thing, even though I ran PMS on a PC on the side, I only did so because the app stopped supporting PMS on my NAS. That’s the exclusive reason for that move. However, that server instance on the NAS has been ticking and going since that time. And I can still access it via web on windows.
Hence I see this as an app issue rather than an server issue.
