Let's Chat About The Android App

I’m not going to list all the reasons the Android app is buggy. It barely even works 99.9% of the time and these forums are full of examples and gripes.

I am going to ask, for the sake of discussion, is Plex looking into a long term strategy to make it functional? You gave a lot of love to devices with UNO but it looks like Android missed the boat.

Example. I have ~15 users spread out. Not a one can reliably play items back on Android. I have 300/300 directly to the server. No issues playing anything on any other devices I or my users have tried. iOS works like a charm, for instance.

However, these same users, on varied connections all have issues on Android.

Where does the discrepancy exist? Is this a framework limitation in the OS? (75% of my media is mp4, h264, aac)

I’m just really curious where things are falling flat.

Again, not meaning to gripe, more just want to understand. Hopefully there is a plan.

You’re going to need to be more specific on the issue you are having. I use the Android mobile app all the time. It’s not 100% but to say it doesn’t work 99.9% of the time points to some major issue that might be unique to your server or network configuration. This is definitely not normal.

Recreate whatever issue you are having then provide logs from both the app and your server. Give details on what you were doing and what failed.

Strange, as the Android app works 99.9% of the time for me. If I have an issue I find that clearing the apps storage fixes it.

My sincerest apologies. As is often to happen in a rapid dev cycle, this post is outdated.

Apparently, 8.6 fixed all (to my knowledge) of my user’s complaints!
