Trailers don’t properly play in letterbox mode on Android TV app @ Nvidia shield Pro. Has this issue only been addressed for other players years ago?

ExoPlayer playing the built in trailer feature which shows 1280x536 resolution in the playback info, which looks almost fully stretched while Letterbox is selected.
When switching between Letterbox and Stretch it appears like the letterbox is using only a few pixels of black borders on both sides while fully extended to top and bottom screen edges.
I read about trailer letterbox issues going back to posts from 2015, has this issue still not been addressed properly or just not for the android TV app yet?
If Plex playback info knows the resolution then why can’t it get the playback mode right, especially if the playback of videos files them self are no problem?
P.S. it’s working fine on the LG TV Plex app, thus seems to be an issue with the android TV app version.
