NVidia Shield TV - SD movies play postage stamp sized!

My NVidia Shield just updated to Plex Player 8.12. Now my SD content, mostly TV-Series, will not scale correctly. When display mode is set to Original my TV shows the movie centered on the screen but with large black borders on all sides, it looks like a postage stamp!!!

This error was already present on 8.11 and could be fixed by switching to the old player - there are several threads about this. No the old player has been removed but the error hast NOT been fixed.

VERY DISAPPOINTING - this is a BASIC functionality for a media player - right?

Please fix this ASAP!!!

Server Version#: 1.21.34021
Player Version#: 8.12.4.22902

My Plex Player just updated to 8.13 but still the error persists.

@beckfield: I know that changing the Display Mode to Letterbox or Zoom will correct the SD content but then HD/UHD content will distort. This is a workaround at most.

Is it to much to expect that SD content will play full screen on an UHD device???

Rather than speculating, have you tried it? I think you’ll find it will work the way you want.

This is exactly what you want. Not sure what you mean HD/UHD will distort. These are typically provided as 16:9 so letterbox will give you exactly how it should.

Letterbox is the setting you want if you want all content to display normally

OK, understood. I think you should seriously consider stating this in the help and make this setting default…

Letterbox is the default already :man_shrugging:

I don’t think that’s true. Maybe on a new installation, but when the feature first rolled out, I found out about it because my SD videos suddenly were not using the full screen. Like many others, I had to find that setting and change it to Letterbox.

Letterbox is default. I uninstall/reinstall for testing stuff the time. I just did again just to make sure.

As I said, “Maybe on a new installation…” If it had been default when it first rolled out to my Shield, I might never have known that the new setting existed. Is it the default when it is in an update, rather than a fresh install?

We could change the default with an update but afaik Letterbox has always been default. I have had a shield since it came out as well and had that crappy Google Nexus player before that and I have only ever changed it when I was making screenshots to explain what they do for people.
