LG 70UH635T Smart TV strange issue with Direct Play

I have noticed a lot of posts about issues with Plex on LG Smart TV’s with Web OS app not allowing Direct Play.

I have found a strange work around with my TV anyway that makes it work. I can tell when Direct Play isn’t working, as the surround sound light on my receiver doesn’t light up and just plays 2 channel audio.

Even with Direct Play on in the Plex App and on the sever, and after following all other recommendations, it still wouldn’t work…

Then I was fiddling with some picture settings, and came back to my movie on Plex, and the surround light came on… and the movie started playing instantly whereas there’s usually a delay when it has to transcode…

Anyway, it seems there is a bug in the LG app, or in LG’s software, because I can have a movie playing on Plex, and bring up the on screen picture wizard and change picture modes, and the surround light will go on and off as I flick through picture modes! Literally I can change one thing in the picture settings and go back to Plex and direct play won’t be working… go back in to the picture settings, change something else, come back to Plex and direct play will be working!

Very odd… has anyone else experienced this with LG TV’s? X Play does the same thing, and as the native client has a nicer interface, I would prefer to stick with it.

It’s interesting, I have not had a lot of issues with my LG Web OS Plex app until recently. It came right after the TV’s software upgraded to the most recent version, now my Plex app seems to be unstable. When watching any video, when it get’s to 80% through, it will stop and say a network error occurred while downloading the media; but I can use any other application and it works just fine. I also can’t play ANY music. As soon as I click on something to listen to, the whole app locks up and the TV has to be power cycled. I have tried direct play and all kind of other settings but nothing works. Anyone else having this issue with Music?
