LG C9 + Yamaha DTS/DD 5.1 soundbar via Optical - Plex incorrectly reports EAC3 passthrough

Hi there,

Audio settings on my LG C9 show EAC3 direct playback support. I am aware that the LG C9 can decode EAC3 just fine - but I am sure it cannot properly pass it through Optical TOSLINK to my soundbar. This results in weird dialogue levels.

As you may be wondering - the solution may be as simple as unchecking EAC3 support in Audio settings. When doing that, Plex automatically transcodes all my EAC3 tracks to AAC (stereo).

Is there anyway to force it to transcode EAC3 5.1 to AC3 5.1?

Check your advanced Sound settings in the LG, not plex app

It’s set to:
optical audio, passthrough

DTV Audio Setting —> tried “Auto” and “Dolby Digital”. Still seeing:
EAC3 in supported formats in plex. When unchecking, it transcodes to AAC.
