LGC9 is showing Server is Currently Unavailable

Server Version#: 1.24.5.5173
Player Version#: 5.29.1

Since September am not able to connect to my remote server on my LG WebOS Plex App. It works fine on my Apple TV Connected to the same TV.

It works over browser and every other device in the house except for the TV App. It even works on the browser in the TV.

I have setup the Insecure Connections to Always and on the server as Preferred.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app.

I have reset the TV entirely and have tried setting it up again.

Nothing has worked so far. Please let me know if I had missed something.

TIA!

Does your TV fall into these limitations ?

Is the firmware up to date ?

Product Platform Platform Version App Version
Plex for LG webOS All versions lower than 5.0

My App version is at 5.29.1. Even then, I have tried out the setting that is mentioned. It still shows server unavailable.

If you –

  1. Settings - Server - Network - DISABLE secure connections (TEMPORARY)
  2. Restart the TV app
  3. Will it now find the server ?

Its still showing server offline or unreachable.

Any suggestions from any of the LGC9 Owners?

@azrael0528

This is probably NOT what you’d want to do but I think I’ve found a viable alternative player (VERY inexpensive).

I’m not one to endorse products nor should I be doing it but, if you’re interested, I’ll share the info with you so you can decide. Maybe, from my idea , you can find a path forward.

I can tell you that in the 48 hours I’ve owned it, WiFi 6 , DV performance is solid and it is stable at 400+ Mbps on my WiFi.

as in another App for the Web OS? Sure, what is it?

LGC9 user here too, same issue nothing I do works I have tried various solutions

Regarding the LG C9.

Is it still getting software updates from LG or have they abandoned it ?

Yeah it still gets software updates fairly regularly, September was the last one I got. It’s not ancient, it is running Webos 5 I would expect plex to still function.

LG C9 Series has webOS 4.5 and not webOS 5.x
The Mentioned 5.29.1 it’s only the App Version not your OS on the TV.
So you have trouble with the no more valid Letsencrypt Certificate.
LG doesn’t put out an Update for this for Months.

Best Regards

Okay, so what do we do then? Just stop using Plex App on LG WebOS?

@azrael0528

Unless LG updates the device’s internal WebOS certificate, which is unlikely, YES .

From now on you’ll need more than one remote control

–OR–

Enable CEC and synchronize the TV with the HDMI device (and AVR if you have one).

I have all 3 devices power on/off/volume/Plex playback with one remote.

(what more could you want? LOL)

I’ll share a player that i’m toying with… Cheap but seemingly solid solution.

It’s just a little bit frustrating that the official plex app has ceased to function. Not even selecting an insecure fallback works even locally.

@dannyrobbo

Bottom line here is it’s NOT the Plex app.

The TV is the problem. Its internal certificate has expired and there is way to update it from LG (at this time).

I can share one UNOFFICIAL way around the problem if you want

Please read the following:

A non-exhaustive list of affected TVs:

Product Platform Platform Version App Version
Plex for LG webOS All versions lower than 5.0
Plex for LG NetCast All versions
Plex for Samsung Tizen All versions
Plex for Opera TV Opera TV Store All versions
Plex for Smart TVs netgem All versions
Plex for TiVo TiVo All versions
Plex for VIDAA VIDAA All versions lower than 5.0

The definitive answer here –

When was the most recent TV Firmware update ?

If the resident certificate is expired and there are no updates forthcoming…

– Local televisions can be permitted to use No-Auth configuration
– Remote can also be configured to use No-Auth configuration but at User-Risk. (it can be done safely)

Nope, I would disagree. The App is the problem. It clearly states that it will work for all versions above 5.0 and It doesnt work for me.

Also, it seems to work fine for Plex Live TV & Movies. Shouldnt it be not working for everything?

Also, your cheap solution of getting a fire TV doesnt make sense. I have an Apple TV 4K hooked up to it. I just want to know why the official app for LG Web OS doesnt work when a 3rd party can work just fine.

@azrael0528

I apologize for having misunderstood that. I agree there is a problem. I’ve been dealing with so many which are pre 5.0 that I missed it.

Would it be possible to get the player log files with your server logs (they get put into server logs) as you recreate this?

https://support.plex.tv/articles/216955788-logging-for-smart-tvs-tivo/

If it was the certificate surely setting to allow insecure connections would work?

Anyway I have attached the log files, your help is much appreciated.
