LG TV cannot see local Plex Server on wired LAN

Server Version#: 1.42.2.10156
Player Version#: 5.93.2

Hi,

I’m unable to see the Plex Media Server on my local network from a new LG TV running the latest WebOS when using a wired LAN connection on the TV. If I disconnect the LAN cable and use WiFi instead, I’m able to see the Plex server. I don’t have any firewall rules, or anything as such. The Plex Media Server logs show the initial OPTIONS and GET requests coming from the Plex client on the LG TV but it subsequently fails with a Didn’t receive a request from 192.168.0.157:36856: End of file error and the client does not see the server, and shows an error on the TV.

I would prefer to use it via wired LAN because the WiFi connection is not that stable on the TV, but unfortunately Plex does not work then. All other apps, including LG Channels, Paramount, Prime, etc. all work even with the wired LAN connection. Only Plex does not, it only works when I use the WiFi.

I have attached the debug logs from the Plex Media Server running on my Mac, showing the relevant details. Let me know if you need more logs.

plex-wifi.txt (12.9 KB)

Thanks.

Have you tried pinging the TV FROM the server when TV is using ONLY the cable?

Make sure your settings are the same, allowing your Server LAN IP.

Your Server:

It can also be advisable if your router allows to Reserve your ServerLAN IP address for your Ethernet. Restart your Router, Server and TV.

@FordGuy61

Yes, I’ve tried pinging and it works. Also, the logs show that the TV does send some HTTP requests to the server, as we see OPTIONS and GET requests in the logs.

I tried restarting the Plex Server, and the whole Mac hosting it, tried power cycling the TV, and re-installing the Plex app on the TV. None of them helped.

The TV detects the server apparently because we see a few initial OPTIONS and GET HTTP requests in the server logs, but they seem to fail. I don’t think the IP settings are wrong, it’s all just DHCP and I did not restrict anything on the server.

Have you got the first screenshot settings correct. Thats a must.

Do you mean the Advanced Settings to allow insecure connections and those? I haven’t changed them between LAN and WiFi, and it works on WiFi with the same network, it just does not work on wired LAN.

Make sure there as i demonstrated

Yes, the settings are correct. As mentioned before, it’s working on WiFi but not on wired LAN. Do the logs indicate why, or do you need more details or more logs?

Before you start to change your connection type. Turn Wifi off at Mac Server, YES that is correct turn off. Restart your router and Computer Server, ATv. Then commence to connect via Ethernet after restart.

The Mac is always on WiFi only, in both scenarios. The problem is seen when the LG TV is on wired Ethernet instead of WiFi. The connection works on WiFi but not working on wired Ethernet TV on the TV side.

I’m a network engineer, so I have tried all the connectivity verification, including validating ARP entries, pings, etc. I tried restarting all devices, including the Mac, TV, and the WiFi router.

From the Server logs we can see the OPTIONS and GET HTTP requests, so connectivity is there but it seems to be a bug in the Plex TV app that it does not see the data sent by the server.
