After an update my LG tv won't connect. Any advise?

Unfortunately I don’t know what version I was running, but it was working fine for years. Today Plex autoupdated (or I clicked yes without realising) and I’m on a fancy new version. First 1.4.4.3495, then I managed to get back to 1.4.3.3433 but it still won’t connect. The TV can see the server but won’t connect to it. Does anyone have any advice?

What app are you running on the LG TV ? The Plex for Smart TV App ? or the old LG TV Medialink or Smartshare?

It’s the medialink app.

As from version 1.1.0 of Plex Media Server added security was introduced and if the server is signed in then all plex client apps need to authenticate. Old legacy apps such as LG TV Medialink is not capable of authenticating and it would be necessary to amend the settings in Plex Media Server to allow the TV to use Plex Media Server without authentication.

This was mentioned at the time in the Release Notice for PMS 1.1.0 http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1237058/#Comment_1237058 and emphasized in the 1.1.3 public release in August 2016 - see http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1244304/#Comment_1244304

So what you need to do is first make sure the LG TV has a fixed IP Address - one that does not change. Best to do it as DHCP Reservation. Could also be static outside DHCP range.

Once you have the IP address fixed, then you load Plex Web for the server and go to settings / server / network / show advanced and enter that IP Address in the field named List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth.

Thank you for that sa2000 it’s appreciated. I’d pressed the update button in a moment of unthinking madness. I won’t be doing that again.

I am trying to connect the legacy popcorn hour Plex app and am having similar problems. The only difference here is that the popcorn hour is not on my LAN. Does the IP list work for both LAN and WAN clients? As far as I can tell, it does not. When attempting to access my PMS via a browser from an external IP address in that list, I am still prompted to login.

thank you!!! it worked!
