I’ll keep this simple, and hope that it will get noticed by a dev.
Please add support for Opus and Flac audio codecs on Lg Tvs.
Plex can’t added codec support. The Plex app uses the TV’s hardware so the TV must support the codec for Plex to use it. Newer LG TV’s do support opus and flac for music but not for the audio in a video file.
They support it.For both music and Video.Honestly i can show you it.What do i need to do?I have 5.1 opus 6 channel 48khz episode.I am using a usb(using the own player) and the episode(anime) plays without a single problem. Can be said the same for flac
So,any info? Now that you see that it is supported, maybe drop an update?,
That’s their DLNA player. This most likely uses software decoding so it can support codecs the hardware doesn’t. Plex relies on hardware. I believe Emby’s app uses VLC which also does software decoding.
I don’t get the last part with vlc and emby, coz on webos, you can’t use a player other than the one provided by lg,but what you’re saying must be true.So what happens now? Can’t plex just switch to software decoding? The support for these 2 codecs is really important, and it seems like it is quite an easy job to add these.
No and it’s not easy.
I see.Well you are the developer after all, I’m just an user. Will there be any work towards adding these codecs?
Not currently. Plex’s client only uses codecs available via hardware.
That’s sad.Is that really a reason to let whole lg community without support for 2 popular codecs?
Coz afaik, this isn’t the first time this is asked
