Background: All of my videos with audio encoded to Opus are being transcoded to AAC or MP3 when sent to my 4K LG TV. This causes the video to also be transcoded whenever subtitles are turned on, which I always need as I am hard of hearing. Playing the same files on an Android TV, everything Direct Plays even with subtitles on. So clearly it’s a webos issue.
I’ve done a LOT of research trying to find a solution, and I’ve found several references to people claiming that at least current versions of webOS do support direct play of Opus. I believe I at one point saw a Plex employee say that the issue is that early webOS versions don’t support Opus, so they have to leave it disabled for everyone.
So, since neither I or anyone I’m sharing my library with are using an ancient version of webOS, I am wondering if I can’t go into [Plex Install Directory]/Plex Media Server/Resources/Profiles, find the profile being used by my TV, and modify the corresponding .xml to tell it that it supports Opus.
Problem is, I can’t figure out WHICH of the profiles in that directory is used by the “Plex for LG” client app. None of the files or even the text within the files contains the words “LG” or “webOS”. So - does anyone know which profile.xml in the Resources/Profiles directory is applied for a “Plex for LG” client? It’s not “Generic.xml”.
The plex server is installed on Windows 10, btw.
