As of today you can split those different cuts/editions and treat them as individual items in your library (each with their own poster) – or go through the version selection. As you recognized… the version selector is aiming more at selecting from different available quality version of the exact same video.
There’s a feature suggestion to support handling of multiple cuts/editions in a better way (friendly warning: this suggestion has a long history and lots of different approaches in a very, very long thread )
There’s also a feature suggestion asking to simply improve the “play version” picker
