LG-WebOS - No audio on playback

Server Version#:4.59.2
Player Version#:
I’ve recently ripped by entire DVD and BluRay collection to my Plex server, for streaming through my 2014 LG Smart TV. The DVD rips all play fine, as do the majority of the BluRay rips. However there’s one set of discs (The Newsroom) which refuses to play audio on my TV and seems to skip. I’ve also tried the Plex player on my iPhone and on my PC’s desktop and it plays back with no issue there. I’m wondering if I’ve made some sort of silly mistake when I’ve been setting up the ripping software (Make MKV v1.16.4).

Any help gratefully received.

What sort of audio is in one of the files? Are you using a receiver, sound bar, or just the tv’s own speakers?

I’ve had a look on Plex to see the Media Info. The Audio Profile is showing as “ma” (whatever that means).

If it helps, this is the XML from the media information for the file:

The “ma” just mean it is DTS MA (master audio) as opposed to regular DTS. Though it is generally 8 channels.

Can you enable logging to sever in the LG app setting then after playing an episode of Newsroom that has issue the get the server logs

The logs @BigWheel asked for can tell a lot so definitely grab those but many of the LG SmartTVs don’t support DTS audio (which those files have) so it might be helpful to also provide any other audio setup configurations you have (is a soundbar involved?) and maybe the specific model of the TV.

I thought most of the older LGs did support DTS so you might just have an audio setting on the TV that needs adjustment to account for the DTS audio.

For digital rips, AC3\EAC3 or AAC can be a more compatible audio codec option than DTS these days depending on your home setup and preferences (which one is “better” will be up to the audiophiles).

That’s a fair point.

To answer your question, I’m not using a sound bar with the television but simply the native audio outputs.

The model itself was bought in late 2014 (Black Friday purchase) but I guess it could’ve been made in 2013.

Do I enable the logging on the Plex app on the TV or on the server?

In the app on your tv.

These are the images from the Settings panel on my Plex TV app. Apologies for the low quality - I don’t have particularly steady hands.
