LG WebOS Plex App is, somewhat, broken

So any news to this? This is oddly quiet here for a few days

I’ve found an issue with audio track selection during direct play, specifically because webOS removes PCM audio tracks from the media element, same as they do for TrueHD. We’ll get a fix for that into an upcoming release (likely 5.9+, the change log will include that change).

We’ve been unable to reproduce the issue with AC3/E-AC3 audio not being played after testing on a few different devices. At this point we’ll need some logs from the TV app.

  1. Stop PMS
  2. Remove existing logs
  3. Start PMS
  4. Open Settings in the webOS TV app
  5. Go to Advanced
  6. Log to Media Server (select the PMS server you cleared log files for)
  7. Set logging level to Debug
  8. Play the affected file
  9. Upload the logs and link them here (specifically Plex Media Server.log and any files that it rolled over to)

This way we’ll get a rather clean log file with the playback information from the TV.

Check your Messages, u’ll get it personally

Edit: It has been send

Thanks for the logs and sample.

There were a couple similar issues here, both were caused by the TV removing audio selectable tracks during direct play, in the case of DTS it resulted in the TV selecting a DTS audio track for playback, which failed because webOS 5+ doesn’t support DTS. The other was a PCM track being removed, resulting in audio tracks being off by one, ie you select French, but instead the next track in Spanish plays.

A fix for both these issues should be in the next release (they didn’t make it for the 5.8.1 release that went out today).

Well, I’m glad I cold help with an issue that effect multiple users:)
But good to know to know that there’s a fix coming to this, which make it usable again.

I have a quick questions: What is going on with WebOS and the Plex app with Dolby Vision playback, when the movie is an MKV file? Cause I found out that Atomic Blonde in 4K does play in HDR, but not in DV. If you don’t have anything on that it’s fine, I was just wondering if it’s known to you guys?

Anyway, I’m happy that there’s a fix and Thank you for your help

A post was split to a new topic: Unable to Play from Remote Server

Not sure about Dolby Vision in MKV files, best to open a new thread for that.

I thought so myself, I will probably do that given that a lot of ppl are having issues with that. Good thing we have/you guys have a forum for that

So a ā€œquickā€ update: It works. Now it works, both with the AC3/E-AC3 tracks. No issues, complete functional playback of the movie. And on HP1 it works too, selecting the German voice gives you the German voice.

I’m really glad that it works now. Soo a huge shoutout to you for helping/fixing it and most importantly thank you for listening
