Can anyone explain to me why the LGTV Plex app has less capability with direct play than LG’s SmartShare app?
SmartShare can tap into the Plex media server, so I can play all my content through there too and these were the results:
LGTV Plex
Direct Play:
V: h.264 (MP4), h.265 HEVC (MP4)
A: AAC 2.0 / 5.1
Direct Stream:
V: h.264 (MKV)
A: AAC 2.0 / 5.1, AC3 2.0 / 5.1, DTS 5.1, DTS-HD-MA and TrueHD 7.1
Transcode:
V: h.265 HEVC (MKV)
LG SmartShare
Direct Play:
V: h.264 (MP4 / MKV), h.265 HEVC (MKV)
A: Everything but TrueHD 7.1 (unsupported; no audio is played)
Direct Streaming can make content unplayable when scrubbing or simply trying to pause/resume, I only had one file that could Direct Play within the App and it ran perfectly…
SmartShare could DP everything but TrueHD, though without the nice interface of Plex.
I don’t want to have to re-encode my entire library to MP4-AAC, considering my hardware is not the problem, the Plex LGTV app is.
is there a known issue with the LGTV app? Is there something I can do that doesn’t involve re-encoding my entire library?
