Libraries are not loading on Plex Media Server

Server Version#: 1.18.4.2171
Player Version#:
I have finally gotten my UNRAID server to get Plex loaded and running. The next thing I have done is to link the assets on my NAS for Plex to access. I have had to do this twice.

I just went through the DOCKER Plex to launch the Web UI and I log in and see that the server has a circle animating. I assume that files are being added which causes this. When I click on movies, the movie icons show up but when I click on any I get ‘Playback Error’ An error occurred loading items to play.

On the top right of the screen the activity icon also has a circle animation.

I went to the MUSIC assets in Plex and The screen is empty though I added a library

I saw the Naming and organizing your Movie files article. on my NAS I have separate folders that are NOT named /Movies or /Music. Could this be an issue?

I deleted the Music library and tried to reload the library but it was unsuccessful. The Name of the folder is SutTunes on the NAS. I changed the name in UNRAID to Music and tried again.

When I tried to EDIT the library in Plex > Add folders to library and click SAVE CHANGES – it fails and says that your changes could not be saved.

Any clue what I can do to get this to work?

Hey Rick,

I have steered clear of running PMS from a docker on my UNRAID box. Mainly due to how much transcoding I do, but also because I have run into the occasional path issue using Docker containers.

I would strongly suggest using the standard plex paths /movies /music etc - as many of the supporting applications have these built into the standard config.

Good luck

Spoon,

Thanks for the post. This is exactly what I did…

I had custom named the directories which caused an issue to connect my libraries to Plex. I ended up changing names to /music /movies etc and voila!

So how do you access your assets on your UNRAID box if you don’t use dockers?

Interesting now that I look again after I posted a few moments ago.

Plex web UI loads and I can go to each of the libraries music, movies, photos

All of the metadata loads if I click on something but when I click play I get this:

Playback Error

An error occurred loading items to play.

any idea why?

Playback error happens on my desktop which is on the same network as the UNRAID box.

I just checked on a iPad and Plex connects but if I click on the server it shows that it is OFFLINE

I had everything connected yesterday and was THRILLED to finally have success.

Today my UNRAID is checking parity and even though the docker is running when I connect to web UI I get

No soup for you!

The server you’re trying to access doesn’t want to let you in. Make sure you’re signed in as a user with access to this server.

The NAS UNRAID PMS is listed as an authorized device which is online.

Why would I lose connection?

Here is the log from the plex docker

Do you recommend me start over and delete docker and reload?

The directory names on NAS are Music, Photos, Movies and the paths are
/mnt/user/Music

Hey Rick,

Just give it the right absolute path
Mine is
\tower\Media\Movies etc

You could use IP range too if you needed ie \192.168.1.900\Media\Movies

no space left on device - comes up frequently in that log? Are you running cache drives in your array, they might be full? You’ve hit a bump somewhere. Check your drives, you might need to free up some room.

I run lots of things on dockers on my unraid, but not PMS. I know lots of people do. Any box on the same network segment will be fine to find your files.
