Library Auto-updates not working

Hello,

I just recently moved my PMS from my QNAP over to an Ubuntu 16.04 machine. All of my media is still on the QNAP, I have mapped the media folders using CIFS giving the PLEX user permissions. On the QNAP side I have setup the folders to have read only permissions of the PLEX user. I have the Auto Update after folder changes enabled but it never seems to run. I can manually update but it does nto find the folder changes. Is this a limitation of using network shares or am i missing a permission somewhere? I am running PMS 1.8.1.4139

It’s unfortunately a limitation of network shares. The specific kernel service involved is iNotify.
Server-side changes don’t transit the connection.

To demonstrate this, with Automatic enabled, make a change on your Linux side. PMS will immediately respond.
Make the same change on the QNAP side (or any file server) and it will not see the change.

Is there a way I can send an update request with an API call to trigger a scan of a certain library or am I stuck with the timed scans?
