Library complete rebuild guidence needed

My Plex server is running on my Synology NAS. I’m very very very new to Plex. I made first time user mistakes on how I organize my media. I assumed the correct layout for a Plex setup would be the same as the built in Video station from Synology which I had running.

Movies showed in the Plex player but disorganized, missing posters etc. So I moved all my media to a unrelated folder for safekeeping on my NAS with the intent to start over. I deleted the Plex media folder structure “PlexMediaFiles/Movie dvd” as well as all the other folders in PlexMediaFiles as well as the PlexMediaFiles folder itself. Just to be clear my Plex server software is in a different folder then all of this.

I created a new PlexMediaFiles folder, Created a folder “Movies” in it. I added one folder named “Alien” with the { } markers and the info from IMDB for that movie. I then added the MP4 movie and named it the same as the folder. I believe I setup the movie group in plex and pointed it to this new folder, at least I think I did that correctly.

I tried to rebuild my library using every option I could find but cant get this movie to show. My plex library shows as empty. I’m pretty lost on what I messed up or what I’m missing. I could not find any documentation for a beginner on how to “start over” once things were previously running to some small degree.

Can anyone help me get back on track?
