Libraries not showing up in Plex

Server Version#: 7.1.1-42962
Player Version#: 1.32.5.7516

I set my mother up with her own server and recently Plex stopped running. When I remotely accessed her computer to look at her Synology server I could access the server and see all of the movies, TV & music files were there. When I would open Package Center I couldn’t get Plex to run. I noticed I hadn’t kept up with keeping her Synology server updated (it was at least two versions behind) so I updated it. Everything else, including Plex, is up to date. Now Plex will run and open from the package center but her libraries are no longer showing in Plex even though the libraries are associated with the correct folders. All of the files are named correctly and have worked for years.

I took her server home and tried it with the same issues. I decided to start fresh so I backed everything up to an external hard drive. I then logged into my (mother’s) Synology NAS, went into Control Panel and from Update & Restore I did a system reset. I then went into the Package Center and reinstalled Plex. I moved all of her movies into a new shared folder called Movies and went into Plex and associated the proper library (Movies) and it’s still not showing any of her movies.

Is it:

  1. There are no libraries/sections – almost as if there is no server
    -or-
  2. You have sections with no content ?

If I understand your response, I have libraries/sections both on my Synology NAS and Plex. On my NAS I have folders titled Movies, Music, PlexMediaServer (I have put nothing in here) and TV Shows. I have only put items in the Movies folder to test. I originally put in all of the movies I backed up before the reset and have reduced it to just one movie to test with. On Plex I currently only have a Movies library and it is associated with the Movies folder on my NAS but shows nothing.

This sounds like the easy fix is needed – Grant permissions so “PlexMediaServer” can see your media files

This happens because PlexMediaServer is no longer a ‘user’. DSM 7 changed it to a “System Internal User” (a service program).

That fixed it, thanks
