I have a TV library. While watching an episode of a show, I discovered that it had an additional part. I found and added the file using a different episode number so both part 1 and 2 would show. PLEX instead stacked these two episodes as a single duplicate file. How can I separate these two files so both are available to view? After adding the new file, if I click on the original episode, I get part 2 and can no longer watch part 1. How can I straighten this out, please?

Thanks for this link, OttoKerner. I have my PLEX set up as Libraries/TV/Magnum P.I./Season 7/e07e08. (see attached) I tried to add the part 2 of this episode as s07e08.1 but only got another s07e08… can only view the part 2.
Info on the individual season/episodes show incorrect thumbnail and description. Can I edit to correct?
Plex doesn’t support this notation for multi-part episodes.

But the episode you added there is not a regular episode anyway.
It is listed as a ‘special’ on TheTVDB
Its season is 00 and episode number is 02

by the way… your episode numbers don’t match with TheTVDB.com – on their database, “Novel Connection” is listed as season 8, episode 9!

Compare your season/episode numbers with those on TheTVDB.

Plex downloads all its metadata from there, so your files must use the same numbers.
Thanks so much, Otto. Where did you see season 00? At any rate, I made the changes and PLEX correctly removed the duplicate file and created a new “Season 00 Specials” with this episode included. And I can correctly view both parts 1 and 2, even though they aren’t arranged the way I’d prefer.
