Library not updating correctly

Server Version# 1.15.6.1709-78232c603:
Player Version#: 3.95.2
<I recently reloaded PLEX after a Windows !0 clean install. Now my library acts differently when any changes are made. Previously, when I deleted a movie, the icon/poster would disappear in the Library where it had been. Now the icon remains after the delete and I have to DELETE it manually. In my TV Library, when have watched the last episode of a particular show, the icon used to disappear. Now It remains without showing any number of unwatched episodes, but it does not go away. Even if I completely remove the empty folder from that librarie’s path, the empty/removed folder stills shows. None of these were evident previously.

Do I have a setting incorrect, or has PLEX lost this automatic behavior?

I see these actions on my PC (Windows 10) as well as my ROKU TV streaming device.

There is a setting within Plex to delete entries from your database automatically upon detecting the file is gone. It can be a very dangerous setting.
Settings → Library…

Thanks, NewPlaza. but why is it a “very dangerous setting?” When another file is put into the deleted folder, won’t PLEX just re-create it?

This setting must never be activated if your media files are stored outside of your server machine.

If you enable it nonetheless, you may end up with media items getting removed and re-added to your library frequently.
The affected media items may “forget” playlists or collections they were part of, as well as any manual edits you may have made to their metadata.
Plus of the side effect that they will frequently appear under ‘Recently Added’.

Got it! Thanks, OttoKerner. All my media files are on the same machine, but on different drives. Is that OK in my case?

It should be, as long as that machine is the actual Plex server (and not only a file server delivering media files to the real Plex server machine).

Did you perhaps disable this setting by recommendation? After experiencing one of the above described issues?

Yes, I did. I only have a single PC and the PLEX server is installed on it and all my drives are connected to it.

Then this shouldn’t be an issue, except if one of the drives is a “green” drive, which aggressively spins donw its platters.

Can’t answer that one…I don’t even know what a “green” drive is, but I doubt I have one.

Thanks…did not know that.
